Anyone here playing RB6 Siege (or any other FPS games with servers in Europe) using AH fibre? How are the pings?
@AfriFella, what time of day is your Home Uncapped product likely to get throttled? Is this a shaped product? What do you recommend for gaming? I'd start off with 10mbps and bump up to 20mbps if the want or need arises.

Hi there, StrontiumDog. Apologies for the delayed reply. Home Uncapped will only be throttled when your usage threshold kicks in. When it does kick in, your connection is likely to be throttled during peak network hours (mainly daytime), but only if we see a need for it in terms of network management. This means that even if you do reach your threshold, there is a small possibility that you still might not get throttled. Regarding shaping, the same AUP applies to Home Uncapped than Premium Uncapped. Gaming protocols are considered realtime and will not be shaped.

Depending on how heavily you game (and use other services on your home network) I would suggest to rather stick with a Premium 10Mbps Uncapped package, instead of upgrading to 20Mbps Home Uncapped. You can even consider going for an unshaped Capped package if your usage warrants it. :) Drop me a PM if you have any further questions or if you would like me to make suggestions based on your current usage.

At the moment any data you move will count towards the usage on a Home Uncapped account.
Is after midnight-to-7am traffic still counted toward usage with regard to the AUP?

edit: I'm with Century City Connect

3) Capped Fibre products will receive After-Hours data but the roll-out of this does vary depending on the provider.

Any Capped account on our Fibre or DSL will receive the after-hours data between 00h00 and 08h00.

The Uncapped accounts do not receive this After-Hours data, and on the Home Uncapped accounts that usage will count towards the AUP.

Thanks, perhaps a silly question, but are DSL capped accounts able to be used on Fibre lines?

What are the cap sizes for the various capped Fibre accounts? I could not find this info on the AH website.

Thanks J56 ^

@AfriGenie, can one easily change between line speeds, like one can do with ADSL on Clientzone? I take it there is no cost to change up or down in fibre line speed or cap sizes?

Is a capped account on par with a Premium Uncapped account in terms of performance (i.e. not being throttled or shaped)?

Not my concerns... it's every capped fibre user's concern, and the inability of your devs to provide an ETA should be of a even greater concern to you and the powers that be

Just playing catch up here... so there are major issues with the capped product offerings? One cannot easily change line speeds?

Uncapped is unaffected?

Heya StrontiumDog. I've just responded to your PMs. I haven't been available the last few days, hence the delay - My apologies. If you have any other questions, give me a shout.

I seem to be continually getting the run around from afrihost.
I get home. Discover that I have no internet and have to reboot the modem. Most of the time this fixes it. Sometimes it doesn't.
Complain and the problem temporarily goes away.

It started over the weekend again and so I decided to go and contact afrihost via chat. I get told that my line seems stable with once a day disconnects...

I was shocked that me needing to restart my router once a day can be called stable. On ADSL I could go for more than a month without a restart!

So now I'm complaining here because sitting on hold with only a cellphone only to get the run around again isn't a great way to spend money.

That does seem a bit much! Which Fibre provider installed your Fibre?

Hi AfriGenie, hope you can assist...

I ordered a Fibre bundle, so my line was installed on Wednesday GOOD

BAD I haven's received my router yet :( Support centre not really able to tell me the status of the router delivery.

Can you please assist and give me the some feedback good or bad news, just want to know....have sent you a pvt message also

Hi Heinie777. Exciting news about your fibre! :) I'm sorry to hear about your router delay. We have recently experienced a stock shortage which caused a bit of a backlog. I know we have started sending out routers again, so yours will definitely be on its way! :) Feel free to drop me a PM and I'll prioritize it with the team.

Seeing this message, i realise i have the same problem. Internet slows to a crawl and i have to reboot the D-LINK WiFi router.
I do this at least once a day.

Fibre is Vuma Aeriel
Package is 20/20 uncapped Premium

During the course of the last few days, I've been experiencing lag on my 100Mbps capped fibre, despite normal line test speeds. This occurs when loading both local and international sites (requiring multiple refreshes in some instances), as well as slow download speeds for server based (i.e. non-P2P) downloads.

The best description is it feels like I'm being shaped/throttled, despite support's assurances to the contrary. I've had my line reset and rebooted the router several times without improvement. I have used my allocated bandwidth to the point where I've had to top-up for the month, which is what makes me suspect that I'm being deliberately restricted.

Have any other users had a similar experience?

There seems to be a openserve problem in the western cape. Been like this since Tuesday for me.

Is there any official post on the issue or are Afrihost sweeping it under the rug hoping that users don't notice/complain? Certainly nothing under their network status.

I guess they don't work weekends, since @Afrixxx hasn't bothered replying to my post yet. _sigh_

Do you see this reflect on a speedtest before you decide to reboot? Do you see high latency at all during this time?

Sorry to hear that, akuma. :( That's surprising to me because even if you are being shaped, non-realtime services should not be affected. This implies that there might be something else wrong that could be causing your problem during this time. Do you see poor speedtest results when this is happening?
