Afrihost is upgrading its ADSL network

Moved to afrihost for less than a year because many people use them and are happy, but now!!! OMG!!!, they will not acknowledge there is a problem, they just want to keep resetting my port, and now, when every single day their network status page has this orange message with "increased usage" they are still making us wait???? Just how slow is the decision process at your offices? Do you guys literally need to have 100 meetings, 50 panels to seek the truth and then another 30 environmental impact assessments before you can simply order some IPC / Capacity from Seacom / WACS / EASSY?????

Can you really be that SLOOOOOW? or even slower then the internet I've been getting? I'm on a 10 meg line running at just shy of 1Mbps.

I am sticking around only because I made the dumbest mistake of moving my ADSL line to you, and moving that again is just far too much for me to handle right now.

I have a sneaky suspicion they have to get permission from MTN when they make larger financial decisions like ordering more capacity

Then they can try and consult MTN for a major financial loss when they loose customers left right and centre.

I thought cybersmart was bad, at least they don't have an "evil" hand behind the scenes pulling the strings.

The real jam in the gears is Telkom.

Don't buy that. The real issue here is MTN.They want their pound of flesh and are prepared to sacrifice quality for sake of margins.MYBB members should be well advised of this the next time they vote.

Upgrading IPC is not an easy/cheap thing to do.
The real jam in the gears is Telkom.
When did they order the additional IPC? Just a few weeks ago MyBB carried a story quoting Telkom Wholesale as stating that they have no outstanding IPC orders on hand.

And AH's problems started before that...

If it was a Telkom issue you can be sure that AH would have pointed a finger at them.

Afrihost is not usable for torrents. They choke, strangle, restrict you and then state that they have uncapped accounts.

Ahmen to that... this is purely an Afrihost wait until the very last moment to actually do something about the IPC short-fall jam-in-the-gears.

Afrihost seemed to choose fiddle with "optimisation" and "shaping prioritisation" while deny that their IPC capacity was needing to be upped... blamed demand, blamed iOS 8, blamed congested exchanges for a couple of months and only when their wheels fell off their cart did they finally go.. yebo, IPC... eish!!!!

I fail to see how Afrihost procrastination becomes Telkom's urgency? Telkom is not responsible for Afrihost's forward planning and network saturation blind-spots.

Im on a capped 50+50 and speedtests are hardly ever over 1mbps and this has been going on for quite a while already. Afrihost has become just like screamer and digichilli. Totally ridiculous!!

I just hope they don't get into the same habit as with previous IPC upgrades in the south where the upgrade carrot was always dangled in front of you at some future point just after the next cancellation cut off date (25th), at which point the story would be, "sorry folks, it's been delayed until next month". (Refer 2012 post-MTN switchover IPC upgrade).

I was referring to the IPC allocation. MTN doesn't have anything to do with that.

And AH made a statement a few weeks ago that they were not in a financial position to do another upgrade right then.
So obviously there was no order.
Now they are going ahead with the upgrade.

Sorry Segg. This is my fault. I logged on to download my 10MB of mail on my laptop. The mail is downloaded (only took 40 minutes). You can have my share of the bandwidth now.

Tools > Addons > Search > DownThemAll

Single-threaded downloads are almost always terrible, DTA does up to 10 concurrent threads to wring every last bit bandwidth out of your connection.... on Afrihost it might not reach full speed but it'll definitely be better

This is not the first time there was IPC issues, e.g. (April 2014)

If memory serves me right:
1. Uncapped after R29, ****ed up by shaping rules.
2. Return of the AH uncapped, ****ed up by capacity.
3. Fast forward to today, ****ed up by capacity.

However I think I'm missing one or two entries in the above list...

So this upgrade will "solve" the problem for a couple of months, then they will realise too late that they need more capacity and won't have it available before the network degrades into 10KB/s on thier 10Mbps accounts again.

Rinse.

Repeat.

MTN has no clue what they are doing and has proved this multiple times since Afrihost/Axxess moved to their ADSL network.
