Since yesterday (29 April 2014) Afrihost customers cannot log into their internet service.

No email or SMS communication has been sent out to their customers. Or any related message displayed on their client zone website. On calling the call centre I was informed that I will not be able to reconnect, and will have to wait until the general problem has been resolved.

This long outage at the end of the month is completely unacceptable. And so is their absence of proper communication.

I realize that this is in the ADSL subforum, but has this effected 3G users aswell? I say this because I wasn't able to connect today (though may be an unrelated issue) and still unable to connect.

We've been posting regularly on our Mobile and DSL threads and on our website, but I'm sorry the information has not reached you :(

We're experiencing an authentication problem where new connections to the network are not being established properly, and this is affecting DSL and Mobile broadband. While some clients are still able to connect, and clients who are currently connected are not affected, we're not seeing the normal rate of connections we should be. We are woking with MTN to try to resolve this as quickly as possible.

An email would have been nice. I would not have reset my link had I known that reconnection is not possible.

And this problem is not impacting anyone that is already connected. Once you disconnect, you cannot reconnect. Therefore the mail would have reached all connected users, warning them not to disconnect.

guys, what about those of us with data left ?

time is running out as it expires midnite

And, pray, tell, how would said email have reached you over a problematic link? :erm:
While at work or on his smart phone? Email would have gotten to me that way. Came home to find my router had been trying to reconnect the entire day.

I didn't even realise that my Afrihost connection would have been problematic as I have mostly Telkom ADSL data left after tearing through all my Afrihost data first every month. But I have to find out how OP managed to keep such low ratio of post count to active years. Amazing! No...wait it's ama zing! :)

When he posts you know it's seriaaasss :p

I concur that Afrihost should have sent a SMS / email notification to inform us about the authentication issue, and advising against rebooting the router until they resolved the issue.

I was troubleshooting a DNS issue and rebooted my router last night to flush the DNS cache, and was unable to authenticate afterwards. Had to scramble for my old WebAfrica prepaid account and purchase more prepaid data (R67 a Gb... daylight robbery) so I could finish my work. Poor form, Afrihost...

Exactly, is it unreasonable to expect an email and SMS informing of the problem?

if I had known it was AH that was the problem and not something specific to my line, I could have tried my FNB Connect ADSL account and not faffed around using my 3g connection on my cell phone as a wifi hotspot.

Same here,

Lost 5g + 5g due to the outage.

Oh well.!

I still can't connect. Are there still issues in the western cape?

All systems shows green. So the issue must be resolved.

edit : what have you done so far?

The usual. Reset the router, checked on the Afrihost website that all is well with my account (and all looks fine). Line is syncing fine but dsl light still solid red. Going to get get chow now, so will check when I'm back again.
