Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

I thought I was alone lol. just upgraded to 20mb uncapped LTE and got locked to 4mb speeds, yesterday it got better to 8mb but still locked.

yeah looks like someone has probably fiddled with profiles and messed the speed up seeing it with a few clients on the top plan

@Afrigirl - Same question. It has been a week now. There has been no further communication from Afrihost or MTN.
The last update was on Monday. Surely MTN should have been able to resolve this already?

I didn't even realize at first, I thought I was just having tower congestion or signal issues or something... I was ready to start testing out the Telkom 2Tb package as an alternative. Glad it's a known issue that will be resolved (soon?).

I also hoped that it will be resolved quickly, however that was wishful thinking, it's been like this for more than a week on my end and the speeds are currently even slower, only getting around 6Mbps up and down...

If after all this time the Afrihost and MTN engineers can't find the problem then it only means one thing, incompetence!

Afrihost is supposedly the biggest MVNO/APN on the MTN network but it seems like that does not mean anything, even with a big issue like this there is no urgency to get it resolved.

At the moment I'm paying a lot of money for a 6Mbps service and I have to be happy about it, no use complaining anyways, the South African way! :)

At this point, Afrihost and MTN claiming they have no idea what the problem is, only to start investigating after this thread is a joke. I have to question if they are addressing the problem at all. If they truly are, there are some questionable practices at both companies.

I won't even be surprised if the speed issue is fixed on the 1st of Feb. They might just be waiting for the new month to reset caps, which is the only explanation that remotely makes sense.

SO this issue goes back to around November 2024

Afrihost somewhere lost control over measuring capped MTN Fixed LTE products.

I notice November and December my 5GB Fixed LTE cap never got capped.
I landed up using easily over 400GB on my 5GB Capped Fixed lte.

they mitigated this problem (obviously losing a ton of $$$$ because they cant stop capped accounts going over cap)
by limiting the speeds on all Afrihost MTN fixed. LTE/5G products

So here we are all speed limited cause someone fubar'd last year.

EDIT: Would not surprise me the speed cap was introduced after the 18th so people couldn't cancel and would have to stick around for another month while they fix it.

@Afrigirl - Still no update from Afrihost? Also no response from you since Monday?

Pretty shocking treating paying customers like this and keeping everyone in the dark, a status update on your website every 3rd day does not mean anything as it's the same excuse every time with no actual answer as to what the cause is.

Unfortunately (I say that because I am actually a loyal Afrihost customer) I'll have to cancel the fixed LTE services if the issue is not resolved in the next 2-3 business days, and I have two active packages. Vodacom Business will be happy to hear from me.

Hi.

We understand the frustration this has caused and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, we have not yet identified the root cause of the issue. Please rest assured that our team is working tirelessly to investigate and resolve it, in collaboration with MTN.

it bursts to 14 then drops to 8 on average. not even halfway of my limit of 100 GB used. why must I pay in full for a product that does not deliver in full ?? I am a new client on this 20mb LTE uncapped too. This feels like throttling. back in the adsl uncapped days, one ISP did the same. (and im not saying they are doing it now, it just feels the same)

:(

I am feeling the pain too on Capped line which is not supposed to be throttled.
Currently running at 8.2 up and down.
I think we are deliberately being throttled for some reason
We should be compensated for this inconvenience. Its been weeks already !

My 100mbs 5G package, I haven’t gotten more than 10ths for the past week.

@Afrigirl & @AfriNatic,
There hasn't been any update since the 29th. Please continue claiming it's a 'technical problem,' though every poster here has clear evidence their service is being throttled.

Normal MTN SIM cards work fine, but only Afrihost users are facing this issue. This further proves it's an Afrihost problem, and no one seems remotely interested in resolving it.
