Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

That's at the moment I took the screenshot. It can be as low as SNR -1 and as high as SNR 20 depending of time of day (high snr usually after 12AM)

However a month ago even -1 dBm SNR would still give me a solid 30ms. It has never affected my latency before. I'm on this package for a year now and permanently run a "ping 1.1.1.1 -t" on my second monitor at all times.

I can only imagine the tower I'm fixed to has severe issues.

EDIT: I must also reiterate that my MR600 stopped aggregating about a week ago.

Do you have another router you can try? When I had the MR600 it looked somewhat like this, just not as bad, when I was able to lock the tower on the ZTE MC801A most of the issues disappeared, although that RSRQ isn't very great, but then again I'm not sure how impactful that is on the connection.

@Afrigirl is it somehow possible to set a fixed routing on my connection? Sometimes the breakout is in Johannesburg then when I restart it's back to Cape Town, and so it bounces around, I was also informed by customer support that a static IP on LTE is not possible, but I wanted to confirm.

I have a B618s-65d but as far as I know it has never connected to the Afrihost network so it would be blocked automatically now.

The TPLINK Archer MR600 not aggregating is a very recent thing and coincides with the bad latency during "peak times". I can manually force bands but it has never affected anything.

Here's a pic of band 8 having zero affect on the latency I posted above.

According to the internet, these are "excellent" stats.

What about a trace route to 1.1.1.1 ?

If you own an android you should try getting an MTN sim and locking the tower on that to see where the problem may be.

Nee wat, I cancelled this kak and got a WISP for the holiday home. After researching high and low, AH MTN was the only thing that worked at my location. Nothing else. It was good, initially, but if they throttle me any more than they do now, I will have to start sending MTN data vouchers with apology letters for trying to use their service.

So I had to go the WISP route.

Very disappointed and frustrated at the moment with the fixed LTE service. Can't even load the speed test page. While the ping is ok. AH seems to be out of ideas, not really helping much. Their solutions seems to be limited to "we refreshed the SIM" (wth does that mean) and reboot your router.
Router is working perfectly if I put another SIM (airmobile) in it.

im using a MC801A, they provided me an MR600 but it couldnt do cell lock
get a few pre-rica'd sims... new, connect on your phone and download the mtn app to activate the free 1GB data for a day.. Do some speed tests to check your speed.. plug into your router as well... to determine if its Afrihost or MTN or both thats the issue...

if both are a problem, then you have accurately troubleshooted that the tower is the issue.

If all fails, move to a new service provider... Maybe STARLINK

this morning they sent me a screenshot from an MTN website called "National Wholesale Customer Service Portal" showing that the tower is down and surrounding ones are up, hence why i asked again since ive already established now that they have access to it

Ah, i see...

Is there any fibre in your area? Maybe time to switch if possible.

LTE/5G is forever unstable...

had fibre, some gang syndicate came and vandalized it, pulled the cable out the ground, vumatel came to fix and got threatened, so they scrapped the whole area and never came back
