Any idea what could be causing me to lose connection. Modem light switches to red ie the internet light. Quick reboot and its all good again, but its been happening at least 3 or 4 times now..

Sounds like a line fault. Have you tried that other router yet? What are your SNR and Attenuation readings?

This is from the other router. Its been rock solid, but earlier just saw the light went red. Reboot and back up again. Bit annoying to have to reboot every time.

Im not home now, but will have a look when i get home and post.

Still leaning towards a line fault because when the Telkom tech tried his router the "metallic noise" (whatever that is) went away when you refreshed the connection, kinda like now.

Now that it's properly FUBARed now, you probably stand a better chance of it getting fixed this time.

Yeh, but numerous techs said no line faults. The last tech who indicated a fault with the router. So its a bit confusing, because the one says no line fault, and the other said router. So maybe its something inbetween : D

Telkom love the "up to x mbps" slogan, so they don't actually have to fix anything. Now that the line is loosing sync, they "have" to fix it now.

What type of router is it? Could also be a router that might be on its way out. I had a TRENDnet router a few years ago that did the red light thing and required frequent reboots. I replaced it and everything was good again.

Nah wouldnt be that. I got a brand new router off Lara , which is an Aztech. Took my buddys Dlink as well, and did the same thing. So my only conclusion, is that its a line fault. At least now i can push to have the line fixed.

Oh no, I thought it would have solved your network ups and downs. :(

Possible reasons.
Modem - But you already tested 2 and that possibly rules that out.
Filters - your modem and or phone is plugged into.
Cable - Intermittent fault like a "dry joint" on your line from wall socket to exchange
Card - The card at the exchange that you are assigned to could be faulty.

I have had all 4 scenarios over the span of years I have my ADSL/VDSL line.
Just recently the cable had a dry joint with intermittently dropping me until it finally snapped of, the line died, tech came out and replaced it all with new cable. But took a few months before that happened, obviously driving me up the walls :D

Don't know what's going on, but playing Armored Warfare EU servers and getting 300 ping with constant jitters = unplayable, World of Warships also unplayable as seen on the screenshot below. This wasn't experienced at all at the beginning of the weekend. Home Network equipment tested and all is up to standard.

Turn wifi off and test with a LAN cable.

You're truly special. If one says home network equipment tested. One usually means wifi and cable results show the exact same results.

All my gaming is done through lan. I feel sorry for people using wifi to do gaming on.

The first hop to your router looks waaay off, like you're on wifi. Either a router or line fault.

Okay, if you don't want input, I'll bugger off then.

Morning everyone :)

Hope everyone had a great weekend (hopefully there are no Ireland cricket supporters in the audience today). We've chatted amongst ourselves and we've decided that we'd like to try to get things back on track here in this thread and focus on the main objective - which is to gather information to feedback to other internal departments and to offer assistance wherever we can to clients here in this thread.

Let's hope we can do this together, and get back to the great community we've all enjoyed in the past.

Again, just a reminder that this thread is intended for constructive feedback for the DSL network. Please let's all try to respect each other, and the reps who are just doing their part to help as many clients as they can.

Play the ball, not the man.

If anyone has an issue posted in the thread over the last week or so that did not get the attention it should have, PLEASE PM me and we'll get your sorted ASAP.

Looking forward to some awesome convos again :)
