While I don't mind streaming Twitch on source, why does no stream run full line speed?

2.5-3mbps max on any stream. On an 8mbps capped acc

Broadcasting a 720p stream at 30fps uses about 2000Kbps, so watching a stream at source - depending on quality of course - won't use much more than that. :)

It doesn't look like there were any widespread issues last night.

When you say the latency was "fine" was it okay, or was it just not noticeably bad?

Thanks for the response - when I said the latency was fine I meant it wasn't too bad, but not great either, around 250ms to WoW EU which is higher than usual.

Running a speedtest now to compare local vs international, have a look

Does the speedtest default to London? Are you able to test to a mainland Europe server?

It defaults to CPT, I've manually selected locations in EU.

Strange how it varies so much, even between mainland Europe.

It's probably the worst exchange in Cape Town...
Lived in the area for 2 years, it was pain.

Is afrihost not communicating with critical care
This was i getting this morning after i send trace to them on the weekend
The answer was no problem on Afrihost on the Weekend

Good day Thorsten

I hope you are well :)

I've once again checked with the network team, performed tests and I'm afraid we're still unable to reproduce the same results you are providing.

We have been communicating back and forth regarding this issue for months without resolution. Almost every time we are unable to reproduce the reported latency or poor downloads. In the rare cases that we have, we have corrected it on our end which seems to resolve your problem for a day or two. Now I understand that this is very frustrating and time consuming, however as explained before, we will gladly fix the issue if we can identify the issue. I'm sorry to say that we have not been able to identify the cause of your problem as all our testing has yielded acceptable results.

How do we move forward from here?
We are unable to assist you with this problem and will understand if you choose to move to another provider as a result thereof. Should you choose to move to another provider, I will credit your account pro-rata for the remainder of the month however still keep the service active for the remainder of the month. Kindly advise how you would like to proceed.

I hope this information serves you well, have a great day and please let me know if I can help with anything else :)

Warm regards,
Gary - Critical Care Crew
Afrihost - Pure Internet Joy!

Thanks for the answer. I've got to say, streaming, downloads & gaming works perfectly for me.

Thanks! That's kinda of what I was expecting. I have a feeling the further your connection travels, the more of a dip in speed you will see.

Have you noticed if this gets worse or better at certain times of the day?

It's completely random, as you can see even during off-peak hours it's still fluctuating, I'll test again during peak hours tonight.

I find it a little off-putting though - what if I decided to upgrade my line to 40Mbps, would I still only be seeing around 10-14Mbps?

I'm with you man.

I've always wondered myself why my 20mb line could never do above 14mb internationally on speedtests but then again I've never figured out why I can't do twitch on source for over a year now.

After a while you just get over it and roll with "South African Internet" as the answer.

It should then be closer to 40Mbps, the performance will scale accordingly.

You getting 14mbps on a 20mbps line? Pretty okay that. I normally get around there, and on a good day around 17mbps. Sometimes i also fall down to 10 and sometimes below 10mbps.
