Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Rocket league PS4 lagging badly tonight. Latency normally between 170-185ms, around 210-230 currently.

Any reason for this?

We've seen people reporting international latency increases here on MyBB and our team are working hard to try to recreate this on our side. We hope to have some improvement soon :(

Dont ask them they'll make you do tests for the next month.

My nephew was complaining about lag spikes on afrihost in the evenings. I tested between afrihost and other isps and afrihost has way more latency, aside from the spikes they were running between 30 to 50ms over the fastest isp I tested.

If you continue to get lag I'd recommend testing another isp and see if you get better results.

Please don't ask people not to assist and troubleshoot with us. That is really the purpose of this forum, to work together to improve the experience on our network.

Thanks :)

Latency pretty darn high

Seems very intermittent there. Can we eliminate any local issues by pinging bras.afrihost.com?

It's still amazing how after months and months, Afrihost STILL haven't addressed Twitch streaming issues. Many people over many months and still nothing.

twitch streaming has been generally great for some time now, but if you are one of the clients experiencing international latency, you could be affected. We're working to recreate this scenario so we can figure out why only some clients seem to be experiencing this while the majority don't appear to be seeing this :(

Night time latency goes up by over 100ms in diablo 3

Got home early on Friday, 198-210ms then comes 6pm-ish and 360ms latency, same with saturday and sunday.

Night time latency is sucking hard at least to blizzard

That's definitely a huge difference, and we're definitely working on this on our side. Our NOC team are closely monitoring the network for any general spikes in latency.

The best option may be for clients affected by this to send me their usernames so the NOC team can monitor their individual traffic and then look for any commonalities that could be causing this :(

I dit this 3 weeks ago
My test gets ignored
no answers on my trace
I think it is the last month

It is your International upstream provider and your local Pop in Capetown plus the routing change from local to International
compare to Webafrica

We've had a few people testing both internally, from our providers side and with a few clients. The results are mixed so far. Some users never see the latency at all. Again, we need to identify commonalities for those experiencing this.

Data from Dec'16 & hours questions

Hi @Afriman - I've only been following this thread on & off the last week or two - and most posts are about latency after 6pm - so if these have been asked on the forum I might not have seen them :

1. From Dec'16, when I think only R99 packages will get the 18 hrs/day free usage, in for eg., the 10+10 GB package, is the first 10 to be taken as Peak vs the 2nd 10GB as Off-peak ? Or does the 2nd 10GB come off of usage first, regardless ?

2. When will Off-peak times be between - 11h30pm - 7h30am (I did see something about 8am in a post), or will start/end times change ?

Thanks.

I assume the above mentioned problems are also making facebook not load right :D?

i don't think so, we have a local Facebook cache, so most content should not be affected by latency at all.

We're also testing to ensure everything is working correctly so we'll try to replicate this. Is FB not loading at all, or is it media live Video, Live, etc that is problematic?

Its just the images, I used to use automatic DNS settings, now im using afrihosts, no change.

So the answer to that is we don't treat your paid for data in that way, it's anytime data, which is only reduced during the non-free-time period. The use of peak and non-peak is only to describe when free-time will apply. It doesn't influence any policies or data shaping in any way for Capped accounts.

In terms of the times, Free-Time will run from midnight to 6pm and After Hours data (which was 11h30 to 7h30) will now run from midnight to 8am everyday.

Does that answer your question?

We should automatically push our DNS to you, so rather keep that setting on. Try refreshing the page once or twice, it may be bouncing between and international cache and a local one.

We'll run some tests on our side and see if we can recreate :(

The local Facebook Cache is serviced by Mweb, and there are problems with Mweb Routing in General, so I would say Facebook is affected by this.

Im testing daily with my AH Account and the ping literally spikes at between 19:00 and 19:30 like clockwork and vanishes late at night, like 11:00 or 12:00 and I distinctly remember this happening a few months back and a lot of people complained. It seems to be repeating itself again and seems to be a problem for a lot of people.

I constantly sit with "Poor connection to host server" in The Division but the moment I switch to my VOX backup account it goes away and pings are rock solid. Switch back to Afrihost and ping a number of servers directly and the moment it reaches the international breakout the ping is horrid again. Diablo jumps from 180 to 300+, WoW jumps to 300+, Smyte jumps to 400+ etc. etc. Switch back to VOX and its like microwaved butter, runny and smooth. There is definitely something up and the NOC team need to find it fast.

Anyone else seeing poor throughput when watching Twitch?

Was working perfectly before, but started buffering a lot as of 2 days ago.

We do have our own active Facebook cache, it's possible it depends where the content was last drawn from, but I think our network will always look at our cache first.
