Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

If you're not having a great experience then we definitely need to look into it and find out what's happening to cause it! :(

Great!

Feel free to look at the HUNDREDS of traceroutes I've already provided in this thread. Perhaps now is a good time to stop ignoring them, and to start responding to them yes.

That's one way we could have gone.

At the end of the day it's about providing our Clients with the product that they want to use. Plus+ is awesome but's a way to add additional value. :)

I see alot of people confused about the new products and angry in the comments section.

Well AfriGenie give Gian the heads up if he want to save Afrihost implement the solution as my previous comment.

:(

Oh crickey! I'm sure your DSL Line issue will be resolved ASAP!

And just like that it seems it has been resolved...

Download is back to my previous experience... upload is slow (as always). But heck! at least You Tube isn't buffering any :)

Well AfriGenie give Gian the heads up if he want to save Afrihost implement the solution as my previous comment.

If he wanted to simplify the product he could have just declared that Double data will not continue into 2017.

Then he could have then offered a new package, Shaped Double Data, in January to great fanfare and bee seen as innovative again.

Instead he has sown confusion in the market just at the time that is least convenient for most people and Afrihost has shot itself in the foot once more.

So now how much will it be per month for 400GB priority boosted unshaped capped account bundle (including dsl line)?

For anyone who is interested.

Reply from AH support:
"For a 400GB Capped DSL Priority Boosted Package you are looking at paying R799 /pm for the data package alone."

So dsl line rental is extra now.

AH manages my dsl line. Can someone tell me how to move my dsl line away from AH so that I am not strapped down?

EDIT: Another question: If I don't want the isp managing the line - what do I do?

A side note - it has now gone from R699 for a 400GB unshaped capped bundle to R799 for just unshaped capped data. That is a R100 increase + the dsl line is now separate. Well done. AH - you could've just cancelled free time and double data.

Agreed.

So according to you, capped packages are currently unshaped, correct?
Then why bother paying the premium for the "priority" unshaped capped accounts if I can't even get a stable 200ms ping in the evening that I'm supposed to have and my 8.6/0.72Mbps throughput that I am supposed to have on my 10 Mbps line.

"Unshaped", but if the network's broken, then what's the point as you stated. It's artificial shaping if you know that your network doesn't deliver and yet you still claim it's "unshaped".

That 230ms ping trip is still within the city.

Afrihost :) ,but lets first see what the pings to bras are like during the times when you are experiencing latency issues.

so...to bras is fine but hop 3 and 4 is still terrible:

So now how much will it be per month for 400GB priority boosted unshaped capped account bundle (including dsl line)?

It will depend on your line speed, which I don't think you've mentioned here or in your PM. But it would be exactly what you were pay pre-Double Data if you are now on 400+400GB.

We are not increasing prices in any way for unshaped accounts (just no longer offering the free data)

Afriman - I have a capped bundle account with you guys and if I pause it, will the dsl line portion of it remain active? Or will that be paused too?
