You may not be, but we sure are :crylaugh:
:D

Yeah ... personally I am a bit over the pay for 4meg and get 2.

I wonder if the AH accounts department is going to give me grief when I only pay half the bill this month .... they can recoup the balance from Telkom seeing as AH has my line and apparently it takes two months to sort out my problem - although the Telkom Openserve dudes were in the area quite regularly over the past few weeks. .

Anyway - will give AH and Telkom the benefit of the doubt and see what happens ....

Nope, it ran fine... have a look at the traffic graph in my tests above and see the difference?

Also, can you explain the strange speedtest results? There was definitely something going on last night. Latency remained fine while throughput was fluctuating horribly.

That depends on a couple of things... Were you the only user on your network while testing?

Sorry to hear about your ongoing line issues. :( Please feel free to PM me your reference and I'll do my best to expedite a fix.

Yes ofcourse... I carefully monitor traffic with a MikroTik router and queues. Still doesn't explain the fact that switching to another ISP account completely alleviated my issues? As seen in above graph.

Switching accounts causes your router to reboot and will disconnect other users on your network. How long do you tend to run with this test account at a time?

Are you really trying to argue with me about other users on my network at the same time as the tests?! I've told you that I am 100% sure nobody else was using bandwidth at the time.

My router is capable of pppoe passthrough or half-bridge mode, so I can simply dial into another ISP account from my PC to test without affecting the current pppoe session on the router. Plus, switching accounts on a MikroTik does not interfere with the LAN connections and the WiFi and DSL is being hosted on another router.

Also, it's not a test account, it's a proper capped account from Vox which I've used many many times for hours at a time when experiencing poor throughput on my Afrihost account.

Thanks for clarifying your network setup. :) Definitely not trying to argue with you, I'd just like all tests and comparisons to be free and fair.

I can confirm also having streaming issues. I did not bother posting here, because it's the same long standing latency issue in the evenings.
For good measure my trace route stats for various target hosts:

YouTube
News24
Android Play Store
MWeb
bras.afrihost.com

The same pretty much happens every evening :(
Trace route results

It's funny. Afrihost asks for trace routes to show latency etc. When you give them everything you have, then it turns out to be too much info. Can't win.

Wow, these are some pretty comprehensive tests. Thanks. We have passed this onto our Network Team.

Fair enough... all of my tests were done almost at the exact same time, switching back and forth between accounts.

So anything to say about the numerous tests? The graph comparison between Afrihost and Vox capped?

Am I wasting my time by doing all of these tests when I feel there are issues? Because I am starting to slightly regret returning to Afrihost :(

Your tests are definitely not wasted. We pass everything onto our NOC Team and Network Engineers.

I've cancelled my capped account, CrystalWeb and WebAfrica capped accounts both flawless compared to AH during testing this week, especially during the evenings when AH goes tits up.

Not waiting around for more of this BS.
Between the two which one do you feel is better?
I still cant make up my mind.

So, after 4 tickets this year alone .... support have done a full circle on my speed issue.

Last year - I got a new router because AH were blaming that.
Got new cables because that was to blame.
Moved the router because that was to blame.

Finally ..... after a lengthy telecon and a bit of threatening ..... AH logged a fault with Telkom and for a while the line was ok. No idea if Telkom did anything or not ...
Having said this, I also explained the erratic SNR to AH and asked you to kindly have the discussion with Telkom.

Fast forward ... line SNR drops and all goes bad .... rinse repeat .... router, cables, location ..... check all of the above .... because support didnt look at the history and have a standard response protocol.

My line is vrot ... SNR is all over the place ..... to wit the AH support tell me .... line is vrot SNR is all over the place.
Yeah, we have established that ......

Can someone at AH PLEASE .... pretty please with a cherry on top .... take the issue up with Telkom .... I pay YOU to do this ...

As it stands .... I will begrudgingly be paying my ISP this month ..... you should be discounting me for the pain and suffering of dealing with support, not to mention the half speed internet.

Come AH ... you are better than this .........

T-minus 2 days and then I'm waving good bye to Afrihost - you can expect a cancellation of ALL services on Friday AfriFella.

I talk with my money!
