Afrihost Plus+ value-added service suite announced

I personally won't take it up, reason

* MTN's edge network in my town (lucky to get 3g for more than 10mins)
* ADSL - well we all know what the status is at the moment for even capped customers

Maybe when things improve, it could well be a good value added service for all.

The Double-Data is a promotion that we are running, and as much as we want to extend it, it must come to an end. The Plus+ program is a way that our Directors have come up with to ensure that our much loved clients continue to get the Double Data.

Your much loved clients are going to jump ship if they have to pay.

And to have a Plus account is just going to confuse the clients as there will be even more fragmentation among everyone.

As I said, this is going to backfire if you are going to charge more than R50 for it, hell the more I think about it I think you should not even charge people extra for this. You can pay Simfy from your marketing budget.

The Marketing Budget can only go so far, and at the moment most of it is being used for the Double Data promotion. :)

The Afrihost Plus+ is mainly intended to add extra value to our clients, and whilst R99 just for double data may seem a bit expensive, I really think all of the extra value that our clients get from Plus+ will make it worth it in the long-run.

Especially when you will get Double Data on your accounts irrespective of whether or not our Directors have enabled Double Data at that time of the month.

I have been using SimFy for a few days now, and I have to say, it is the first music app that I have used that I would actually replace my old-trusted WinAmp.

The catalog of music covered by SimFy is simply insane!

Will simfy data count towards your cap? If it does, I see even less added value.

Oh well. Cancelling soon...

There was no option to say "None of the above" and "Pay extra to not get screwed? No thanks"
If their capped accounts still worked for me I might have been interested. Luckily they made my decision to cancel my last products easy :)

I have been tempted to move anyway, so will just wait to see what AH does.

If it doesn't suit me I will go.

While the mobile double-data accounts sure must cost Afrihost an arm and a leg, will the double-data promotion on capped adsl packages also end in December?

I have been testing Simfy for the past few days, and in 5 days of using it quite a lot, with the quality set to high I used significantly less data than I would have had I actually downloaded all the songs.

It does also store recent songs on your local device, so it does not need to continuously download every song.

As soon as the double data ends I'm out. Honestly not interested in the "value added service suite".

To echo most opinions the double data deal has kept me loyal. The frills I can live without.

I trust the "plus" will not amount to increased bandwidth demands resulting in a repeat of the last few months!
My "internet joy" has only just stabilised and I'd hate for a repeat performance :p

How about getting one thing right before moving to another...My adsl speeds down to single digits again...Sigh....

^^ This... AH MTN ADSL capped network barely functional at the moment... fix it properly first and THEN add to the demand.

Kudos to Afrihost for at least trying something new. That music streaming thing would be tempting for the car, but R99 per month is too much for that. My mobile data has already been paid for (Zest special) so getting double data every month would not be cheaper for me.

I will probably stick with Afrihost after they end double data, since everyone here seems to be leaving, I will have the whole network to myself

The loss of double data would be a deal-breaker for me too. I've signed up 4 of my clients to afrihost in recent months, moving them from tiny little isps like posix and tradepage who were still charging these clients of mine in the region of R100 per gigabyte for adsl (!).

They loved the value compared to what they'd had before. I hope I'm not going to be looking silly. :o

In fairness, I did point out to my clients the bit where it said "double data may end at the end of the year"

This is essentially an opt in price increase in the form of a value add designed to improve margins. It's probably a good thing because better margins would allow afrihost to improve service levels. The issues over the last year have clearly shown they aren't able to sustain good service levels at current pricing, especially considering average bandwidth usage is going up with streaming and the like growing in popularity. What they should really do, in addition to this, is shift some of the promotional double data to after hours like webafrica.

Hell no, I am not paying R99 extra a month just to get the same as always. Screw the value added services, I won't pay extra for a bunch of value adds I do not want.

/Logs into ClientZone to see what else I can cancel.

We've lost another one, Sarge.

Afrihost Plus+ will give you 500MB of additional mobile data for free. We want you to enjoy your music everywhere without worrying about data costs. And you can use this data for anything. So whether you're streaming music from simfy africa or posting pictures to Facebook, you'll stay connected with MTN’s far-reaching, world class Data Network.

Nope. I hope it won't bug out for people like Nokia Mix Radio does sometimes.
