Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Yes, its prorata. Just upgrade in clientzone, and should be upgraded by the end of the day.
Oh **** son that's spicy.
Nice. Yeah I see on the client zone it says "will be effective by 31/07" so just wondering, did your upgrade say the same thing? :)
edit: prior to placing the order it had that date. So haven't ordered yet

I see this:

Oh... very interesting... mine has also just updated to "will be effective immediately". I literally checked like 1.5 hours ago and it had a date in there.
I'll just wait a few minutes as I don't really want any down time due to work etc. (today)
No downtime.

Getting really bad. Slow speeds and internet randomly keeps dropping. @AfriNatic @Afrigirl

There are constant floods of unicast and multicast traffic in this vlan that is causing issues for our clients. We have a mitigation tool running to mitigate these storms but it's difficult to fight when clients are using devices that are compromised like Mikrotiks that constantly hammer our network as well as other networks with this unsolicited traffic.

Do you think you'll find a way to combat this?

For interest sakes, what traffic are you seeing from the mikrotik's?

Some DNS traffic but the biggest issue is a bunch of bogus traffic sent to neighbours causing a flood of TCP Destination unreachable traffic. This floods the vlan with this traffic and degrades performance. We have deployed a mitigation which spoofs macs to eat up this traffic and absorb the flood but it's not ideal.

Please take note of this maintenance for MetroFibre.

This is to attend to the errors between core switches in Teraco causing degraded performance on MetroFibre. Impact is certain as the cross-connects and sfps needs to be replaced.

This change was successful btw and the speeds have improved dramatically.

All the new CI refugees that joined recently?

Perhaps a good idea to put together a easy to implement guide to fix what needs fixing on Mikrotiks? And if feasible, review the DCHP client logs for Mikrotik routers, and contact those users to make the needed changes?

No it's been an ongoing issue for some time now.

The major issue is poor client isolation on FNO's especially when it comes to DHCP. Clients create loops by spoofing gateway mac addresses causing mac flaps and bringing thousands of clients down and finding the culprits are difficult. In some cases, we do find them and ask the FNO to disable them until the issue can be fixed and instead of fixing the issue we are served with ISPA and ICASA complaints.

We have made a decision internally that DHCP at scale with all these moving parts is just not feasible. It's a pity because with the current DHCP tech we have we are ready for 2.5Gbps and 10Gbps FTTH right through our network core.
