Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Evening @AfriNatic @Afrigirl

Seems like secondary links are down again tonight. Same issues Ping/Speeds/Packet Loss.
Just notifying you until the Main NLD Link Durban to JHB is upgraded ETA 22 September like you said.

Thanks

@AfriNatic @Afrigirl

Quick question - I've noticed every night at 8PM that the DNS servers, 169.1.1.(1,2,3,4) have a wobble for a few minutes and resume.

Is this a planned thing or ... ?

Gateway IP is fine.

I need to dig into this a bit.

Do you have space to add more to your smokeping setup? Those IP's are anycast dns servers which go to the regional-specific DNS. In your case CPT. Can you add the CPT servers and see if they experience the same wobble?

We are experiencing additional impact on our NLD's between DUR <> JHB and latency is increased and speeds slow. This will only affect JHB-hosted services that we do not host caches for and will not affect stuff like Netflix, Google and International as we host caches and our international is from Durban to Marseille and Durban to London.

Good morning @Afrigirl @AfriNatic. In changing routers again due to IPv6 issues, please issue me with a public IP as I have been double-natted. I require this urgently for access to servers and CCTV

I have DM'd you my details.

Thank you

Hi @Afrigirl @AfriGuy @AfriNatic
Constantly receiving multiple outtages a week in Ferndale.

Almost always in the evenings. Usually to the second at a given time frame. 7pm today for example.

10pm Last night on the dot.

Ferndale area.

It's a massive problem as it's always happening right in the middle of my work calls.

It's been going on for months. Last I heard was that vuma was replacing some hardware in the area but that's not the case.

Just get this dns address could not be found error.

Takes 10-30 minutes to come back up. Depending on how it feels.

Any suggestions

Came back up after 5 minutes on the dot.
As mentioned, constantly happening in the middle of work calls.

Hi.
I am sorry that you have been experiencing connection drops. I have logged a fault with Vuma so they can check if there are any power-related issues with the Ferndale POP.

Anyone been able to write a script of sorts to auto download and email Afrihost invoices in PDF? Bit of a pain to have to login each month to download invoices

Anyone having issues with Spotify buffering or randomly stopping a song and giving a message "Can't play current song"

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling from the Microsoft store and the Spotify website both clients have this issue.
Also tried turning "hardware acceleration" off after reading a few suggestions online.

None of the above helped.

I know nothing about this but follow the fibre related threads ; refer to these very recent posts, below, referencing Spotify as well :

Are you using the Afrihost DNS servers?
