Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

It must also be related to when everyone watches the football world cup on smart TVs. I don't think Afrihost can cope.

Confirmed issue or just me?
No, it is not just you. It is funny how it happens when we watch the Football world cup. Afrihost network cannot cope? Guarantee speed will return to normal as soon as the game ends.

Lets hope we can watch some soccer tonight...

Slow internet since around 6am this morning. Openserve Benoni Area - speedtest direct from the router on 500/250 line @Afrigirl @AfriNatic

@Afrigirl @AfriNatic - another assist needed please, another family member needing manual intervention for the MF to VR migration pretty please:)

I've DM'd you their curcuit ID
Sadly this issue hasn't been resolved as yet :( simple portal change and POOF resulting in an active working line not working..

Hi

There is an issue with the cross-connect. We did change sfp's and cabling this morning at 3 am but the issue persists. We have scheduled another emergency change for 1am tomorrow morning to see if we can find the issue.

The MetroFibre issue has been resolved as of 1am this morning.

Root cause: Faulty SFP modules on the cross-connect.

Openserve, Centurion.

Trying to port forward but 443 does not seem to work. 80 works fine. Any ideas?

Hi

Could be used by the router and that is why it seems like it's not working correctly. Best way to test would be to dial pppoe directly from the device and skip the router so port forwarding would not be required.

What's interesting is if one connects to a VPN (NordVPN) in my case, speeds improve on Speedtest up to 400Mbps download which is also the normal speed I get when Afrihost's line is at 1Gbps.

I think there is a routing issue and/or some sort of "throttling" going on despite the lines been declared "pure"...

(My fibre at work also on Afrihost and Vuma Aerial1 Gbps is perfect.)

@Afrigirl @AfriNatic

Hi

Packetloss causes slow speeds. When using a VPN the tcp retransmits are happing to the vpn server only a few ms away as apposed to the serving server 160ms away.

Packet loss again tonight.

There is a couple of network incidents that have been logged including Kempton park.

Please note that with Vuma Villages the DFA backhaul links up OLT's from Sandton to the East rand that goes to Teraco Isando. If there are breaks or high losses on the latter parts of these backhauls then it would affect OLT's further up stream. In this case. vt-fourwayscrossing, vt-rivonia and a few other.

So over 30 hours and no solution. I started a thread about this. I am really in limbo. My working environment is dependant on good latency. I see on the network status page AH has it on "low impact" which is actually BS.

Hi

It's linked to 203BRK061222 | Rynfield MSAN Degraded | Network Fault due to backhaul failure and secondary links being congested.

Ok, understood. They are digging/trenching in the area, wonder if it is related.

Not quite sure but there isn't any update on the ticket yet. It's still open with Openserve dtac network faults since yesterday 09:52am

Yeah, sucks to be honest. Pings are over 70ms and speeds maybe hitting 5-10Mb if I'm lucky - this on a 500Mb line. But it's out of AH's hands so what can you do...

Where do we log for assistance with barely usable internet during load shedding with Octotel Fibre in Blouberg?

It's not Afrihost, as ISP doesn't make a difference. (various people reporting same thing in the area)

I haven't seen any notices for the area. Usually, if there is some network incident then we get an email pretty quickly.

This is an ongoing thing, it gets worse as load shedding stages get worse.

Today was a nightmare, spent most of the day on mobile data.
