Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

If you have a 100.x.x.x IP, you are behind a CGNAT, multiple people will be using that IP
The 100 range is a natted IP for your connection. It routes to a public IP ie 102.x.x.x shared by other connections.

You can ask Afrihost to provide you an unnatted IP.
Thank you. I'll ask for a public IP at a later stage. For now, I guess whitelisting to Afrihost natted clients is at least better than the entire world. I didn't expect that's how natting works on ISP level.

Do you and your friends live in the same area? Do you all have the same public IP?

Sjoe ok here goes.

I had openserve install fibre at my place earlier this year. 80m run from the street to the ONT. On top of the wall in a conduit that I provided and then the last few meters trenched into the house inside a conduit, that I arranged. Experience was painless.

FFWD to yesterday. I ordered openserve fibre to be installed at my dad's place. He currently has vodacom fibre. Expensive and kak service. So i canceled it and ordered openserve. They were quick to rock up after order was placed. But it seemed like we were gonna have to trench through the neighbor's driveway to get the fibre on our side. Last resort obviously but this oke just wants to lift the paving and carry on.

So I spoke to the neighbor and he did some digging and found a 25mm conduit running under his paving for an old telkom line to my dads house. Great so we can use that, no need to lift the paving.

The vodacom fibre runs in a conduit on top of the wall to the house, we supplied the conduit when vodacom did their install. Now this d00s wants to dig up the whole garden alongside the wall to install another conduit, he says he is not allowed to tun in on top of the wall. He calls his supervisor for every little issue. The supervisor from openserve rocks up I tune him howzit you remember me from my install the other day, he says aah yeah man hows it going etc.

Anyway so he tunes the contractor exactly what I have been telling him how to run the fibre to the house. So he did all of that and at then end of the day the fibre run he pulled is short by a few meters to the desired ONT location. FFS. Throughout this whole experience the **** was late everytime. Keeps telling me he is 3 minutes away and then only rocks up 30 mins later etc. Nothing in my town is more than 5 minutes away from you.

Overall a kak experience with a kak contractor. I was giving him kak about all his opinions and "solutions" he came up with. I was on the verge of tuning him to load his stuff and GTFO. Nothing about this installation was complicated but yet he turned it into a nightmare. Fscking ****.

After all his side of the work is done and called openserve to activate the line het took his stuff and left. But he first asked me for a job for his sister and that I must give him a good rating when they call me. I wanted to moer him an ONT.

So he left and I started to connect the Afrihost-supplied router. Turns out AH never set up the router wifi network as they requested when ordering and also no PPPOE details were saved. So I had to call in and stay on the line another 30min to sort that out.

It was straight forward. Exisiting conduit under neighbors paving to be used and then up the wall in an existing conduit all the way to the house and then in. Few bends here and there but that's it.

Rant over.

thank you for sharing, so who's next?

thank you for sharing, so who's next?
Who's next in my line of fire?
or
Who's next with their experience with kak contractors?

I am very happy with Afrihost service overall. I have 13 x Fixed LTE packages, 4 x fibre, 3 x VOIP numbers and 4 x hosting packages with them. So spend about R5k on Afrihost a month.

Par for the course in this country, unfortunately.

Glad your Oldman is sorted.

EISH!!

Edit:

I don't understand why Arseholes in this country have too make things more difficult than needed. Dammit, life is difficult enough as it is.

I've tried the normal support once, at the time already knowing what the issue was. It was painful to sit and do all the 1st line support requests, but that is the process. We're very blessed to have proper tech support here unofficially.

Openserve CT (north) here. Are most of you still experiencing intermittent disconnects/reconnects like I am?

Would've expected more posts here
