Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

I think its time to finally cut lossess with Afrihost and Vuma village, Ive held out for months to no resolution and although they say they are busy with upgrades im sceptical given the communication the past month... I have some time off and im not spending it in the dark and without internet...

Any recommendations? From the forums it seems Afrihost and Axxes are a no go on the Vuma village network....Any suggestions as i only have acces to Vuma village and would enjoy having internet for longer than an hour...

As i undesrstand its a vlan issue so whichever ISP is using a different provider should be better ? not sure how i can get that info ?

Thanks in advance

Any issues with TTConnect? No connection since 8.30am ish

Some contracts are coming to an end and Liquid offered what we were looking for in all regions.

We need to make some adjustments as time goes on. Currently, we still have Openserve direct routes from KZN to France. If there is any issue with a specific game or IP range then we can make some adjustments if possible.
Please do, to this IP.

@Rouxenator Didn't have a single issue since 8 days ago there has to be congestion in my exchange or something isn't right. Never had both issues happen like this low speeds high ping.

Seems OK. I am on Afrihost/Frogfoot so feel free to use me as a peer check.

Weekdays we play one frantically fast paced FPS called Xonotic that I host, and it is mostly guys from South Africa and Namibia playing and we have no issues with latencies or packet loss.

Heck, we have been doing that since I was on VDSL with a 50ms ping.

@Rouxenator I am on afrihost/openserve.

And this is not ok im paying 1167 rand for the Pure Fibre Package 250meg download 125meg upload.
Meaning not throttled or shaped all the speed all the time no matter your usage.

So getting barely 15meg download for the whole household.

Also i have had numerous issues with Adsl Telkom in the past 1000 ping no speeds.
Switched to 4G mtn lte started ok for the first 2 years then became unsable internet cutouts 24/7 high ping no speeds.

Fiber came in our area earlyer around this year about january february. We spoke about congestion and afrinatic said it very low chances of it happening.

Only issues i experienced was high ping with the fiber which they had to reroute when they work on the main cable from what afrinatic said which was resolved by itself not more than a day later.

I also game Internationally Apex legends Overwatch League of legends Fortnite going from 175 ping to 230-240 Ping goes higher if low speeds due family watching videos in hd (15meg) and I also Stream.

I didn't get fiber to experience these issues this stuff isn't mean't to happen on a fiber network this isn't Adsl 4G.

Im just frustrated from many years of bad internet its been 8 days now.
I can understand 1-2 days but not 8 days and no reason given even with a fault that was logged with clear tests provided and time frame.

Are you 100% sure your router is fine? For a while I switched to a brand new Xioami AX router and it was terrible. When I went back to my 2015 model Asus router all was well - despite this being a DSL router with an ethernet WAN port for "future fibre upgrades".

I am eyeing a proper WiFi 6 AX router but for now my Asus AC router does just find considering it is GBPS on all ports.

I feel the same way, getting pings of over 200ms to eu, some games changed their QOS to not allow over 200ms so basically can't play anymore. Whatever routing changes have been made with afrihost has completely ruined my gaming experience..if I change ISP will I have the same problems...I switched to fibre from LTE because I assumed it would be stable and great latency for gaming..I was wrong, it is more stable and speeds are fine..but this latency is not what I expected..and it used to be ok, progressively gotten worse, from 165ms now 185ms to the same server

@Rouxenator No the router is fine (New with the fibre packaged from afrihost) and it only happens from 18:00 to 22:00PM since a 8 days ago.

03:27AM Normal compared to the 18:00PM to 22:00PM Tests

@lilggg No i get 170-185 average aswell depending which game i play. We get routed out through the Eassy Cable from Durban to EU. Fortnite coming in First 2nd League/Valorant 3rd Overwatch and last Apex varies from 180-195 but that's there servers for me atleast.

But my current issue isn't eu routing its locally even at my first hop from the exchange its probably congested as hell.
So only barely getting 15 meg with high pings from 18:00 to 22:00PM is not good. Espcially for the price.

Keep in mind this is the first year of fiber in our area and many other areas close.
So it was probably poorly planned for festive season as many people come down.
But thats not a excuse its fiber :).

And i usually Stream and Game from 18:00 to 00:00 or longer.

First fault was logged with Afrigirl.

Sad Part is i think Afrinatic is on leave which is totally understanable he has always been very helpfull since i have gotten the fibre. Afrigirl is probably on leave aswell.

And this issue might persist throughout the whole christmas new year.

@AfriNatic 7 days of congested High Pings and Low Speeds going from 25meg to (250meg normal speed) from 18:00PM to 22:00PM.

Fault was logged with afrigirl still not resolved and said was resolved on the 16th but it's not the case.

Its worse!

250meg download 112meg upload and 5 ping to durban and on local hops 5-8 ping.
That was the Normal before this mess started 7 days ago.

Hi

I have sent the tests to Openserve tier 2 to investigate and provide an Openserve test account.

Hi

I'm still waiting for feedback on my ticket logged for the international latency.

8 days only....I've had issues pretty much daily for the better part of 3 months with Afrihost pure and Vuma village...no connection since last Friday and Afrihost has not even mentioned the issue on the network status page. All I get from them is "suspected outage" with no follow up.

The problem is they all just play the blame game and hardly anything actually gets fixed. Afrihost are basically a call centre at this point that are redundant as they are not able to help in any way. Only the Fibre line providers do maintenance, and customers have to go through the ISP and They blame Vuma and around we go....It seems almost impossible to take any legal action against them either.. Vuma are well connected and their contracts are concrete. Probably the only reason Vuma no longer provide internet services..

Vuma and all isp's that advertise the fibre services that are unable to provide the service should have a class action lawsuit against them, it's the only way. It's 100% Fraud at this point.

It's just sad to see companies like Afrihost and more recently Cool Ideas (who are meant to be the best ISP's in SA) completely lose track of their initial objectives......

Anyway that's my Afrihost rant for the day...I'm confident I will have another reason for one tomorrow given the track record.
