Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Is there a better performance by going the public IP route?

What is the cost pm for such public IP?
We do not charge for a public IP.
So we allocate NAT first on new MAC addresses and that is because we don't know if the device that is getting the IP is genuine. We can manually allocate a public IP once the MAC address is mapped to a subscriber, and this is because of the ipv4 space constraint

But no performance increase?

So what's with the weird spotty YouTube 4K performance in the evenings and sometimes briefly during the day, for the last few weeks or so? Getting buffering on 4K. especially in the evenings, where you can see the line doesn't burst (sometimes only hitting ~20mbps) and just parks, but switch down to 1440p and you can see it fly to +100mbps and immediately play.

MFN is my FNO.

Also still waiting for an answer from anyone. 😅

@wingnut771 seems it was the router QoS causing the spike in PingPlotter.

@AfriNatic @Afrigirl EX511 QoS seems to be kinda dog. Am I doing something wrong? I enabled it since moving down to 250/250, maxing the line can cause sites to not resolve when I'm maxing the line, so I was using QoS to handle that, and it worked. But PingPlotter shows massive 300ms+ spikes on first hop when it's on.

Is that a known issue on the EX511 v2 or is that a weird networking thing where it drops ICMP with QoS or something?

I will check with the team on our KZN Google Caches .

No, there are no known issues yet. We will request for the EX511 so we can test it and monitor.

Hi, new line installation here, still waiting for the ONT / line to be activated by ThinkSpeed, the Tp-Link EX511 was sent by Afrihost and received yesterday and it's got certain Wi-Fi details on a piece of paper that came in the box, however when I connected to the router via ethernet cable it was as if it's been reset to factory defaults, it asked me to set an admin password and the Wi-Fi SSID was factory default but the credentials were set to a guest afrihost login. Is the router waiting for the ONT and line to be active at which point it will connect to Afrihost and then configure itself to the predetermined setup?
