I have been a customer since just before September.

I am happy to report that there wasn't any slowdowns applied, and also that the 'peak time' bandwidth was not being shaped at all.
So they were not lying when they said its not shaped or throttled.
There was an issue with latency to local servers, but that was due to Seacom apparently not doing open peering, but that seems to be back to normal now.
Happy so far, thumbs up!

Glad to hear everything is going well :)

Well, I'm holding thumbs that this "pure" FTTH product will make the difference from how things were going last week. No point in paying a cent more for the same problems.

This IP was causing the packet loss on our DSL connection.

I am fairly sure that this is related to the CDN issues that we've been seeing, I don't think we're pushing traffic to Nairobi. But I've asked our NOC to take a look and see if anything can be done on our side to eliminate this latency :(

This is confusing to me.

I currently am on the 1gbps uncapped service, but because I never get that speed, I want to downgrade to 200mbps as it makes more sense. I'm now being told that I have to pay the 1500 before I can downgrade. The kicker is my line is currently suspended due to the non payment thereof and I've received no invoice or a reminder to tell me to pay.

So I'm basically held ransom now.

Sounds like the fee from the upgrade might still be pending. But please drop me a PM, I am sure this can be resolved quickly. There should be no charge for a downgrade :(

@AfriFella @AfriMan

I also found something strange... You are never guaranteed to get the fastest route to London. Since i use expressvpn in London as a workaround for routing to EU. I find that the routing to London is random. Sometimes great and sometimes its 10 ms more. And this doesn't happen when you do a normal ping to london servers. That's always low. But as soon as you make a permanent connection to a server in London (Vpn server or gameserver ) Its your luck of the draw if you get fast connection or the slower one. Look at my two tracert below at the first hop. Its the exact same server in London.

Only way for me to control it is to keep connecting and disconnecting to the vpn server until i am lucky and get the fast route. I always see this in Apex legends when i don't use a vpn. Sometimes London will have 160-162 ping . Other times 170-173.

And just on a side-note, Even if you get the slow route to london link i listed above. It is still faster to IP : 185.60.112.157 than the default route for afrihost :)

It looks like you're hitting the same network kit, so I don't think it's a faster route VS another. The internet is a pretty dynamic environment and 10ms fluctuation there is pretty normal. I don't think it's anything to do with routing in different ways at all.

@AfriMan @AfriFella
I am moments away from cancelling my Afrihost account. If I do not get someone competent to help me, I'm finding me a new ISP.

We definitely want to get this sorted for you. Can you please PM me? I know we chatted over PM before, but I have to clear out muy inbox regularly or it gets full.

Noticed the same thing, also on Apex using VPN, funnily enough. I think it's more a matter of fluctuation along the route, since it takes the same path each time. Liquid's networking/routing is pretty bizarre though.

The funny thing is, I can force a connection of +- 160ms ( 158-161) by just connecting and disconnecting until i get a "fast route". And then it will be 160 ms to apex in london as long as the current vpn connection is active....

As long as that vpn connection is active my ping will always be between 161-163 in apex(London data center ping ). Never changes....

Doesn't really make sense if you are not hitting different IP's. We might need to get a more studied opinion from one of our NOC team, but sounds like the routing is the same.

Perhaps you're being assigned to a different VPN server each time you reconnect?

I'm getting disconnected about 4-5 times a day. Highly annoying as it changes the IP each time.

Is this router related?

Getting 600KB/s at work, they are not on AH. Still better than 16KB/s

It must be the server or poor routing as a did a 1GB test file download on thinkbroadband and that went to max speed.

Surely it cant be so slow from MS. Im also using 8.8.8.8/1.1.1.1 for dns.

Mine hovers between 8-14MB a sec.
I am using google DNS only. So not sure why yours would be so slow.

@AfriMan any idea when your systems will be fixed? Waiting for my new fibre account to be activated.. support manually activated but say it's pending allocation and there's a system problem that I must wait to get resolved (will receive sms when it's fixed).

Line works fine with the test @wa account they asked me to try so it is an AH issue.
