Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

I ditched all the other garbage like the D-Link Afrihost supplied and then TP-Link Archer. The Tenda AC10 is THE BEST router you can ask for. It uses minimal power which is ideal for extended power outages when running a backup battery. It's fast and very stable with Wifi speeds giving me line speed(200Mbps) always on 5GHz. Really recommend this router and it's not even that expensive. Got it for less than R500 from Geewiz.

The Huawei routers are really good too like the B618 for 100Mbps or less and the Huawei 5G router for 200Mbps or faster lines. The Huawei H112 5G router has wifi 6 too which is really nice. Ohh and it has 5G,4G,3G and 2G as well.
I'm impressed with Tenda I must say. I use Amplifi mesh at home because I have quite a large house and that works really well, but I would consider tenda if I had to start over. Couple years ago they weren't this good from my experience

My fibre got installed by Clear Access yesterday and I haven't been able to activate it ever since

Same here.
Blitz / Frogfoot installed my line yesterday afternoon.
When the installer left he said that Blitz's system were offline and they would activate my line a bit later or otherwise today.

I tried calling Blitz today but they seem to be closed.
So nou sit ek seker met my vinger in my gat tot Dinsdag toe.

@PeterPan420 did afrihost support contact you ?
Nope

At least you can get some enjoyment from that :sneaky:

Not aware of any international issues at the moment. We ran some tests on our side, and we're getting decent speeds (as can be expected) to US. In your tests, your latency looks pretty decent, so we'd have to do some more troubleshooting on your settings and local network to see if anything could be a factor in terms of the experience you're getting :(
Hi Afriman,
Any feedback on this troubleshooting?

I'm finally up & running. :)
Nice.
I spoke to frogfoot yesterday. The "engineer" told me they couldn't provision my line right away, something about their script or something being offline. Needless to say, I still don't have internet.

I certainly hope this isn't how the rest of my relationship with frogfoot and Afrihost is going to be.

Been on Afrihost since 8th Dec. Bonolo.N helped get me sorted, after a few hiccups with ex-isp, super helpful and gave valuable information. So we on day 8 and I am extremely pleased with the connection. I have been having consistent speeds and latency. Playing Dota and Cod without spikes and drops has been a dream. Not sure about the jitter, but been running tests everyday, this is the first time there is a bit of jitter, so I am not worried about it at all. My feed back thus far

Anyone notice DStv now error 403s when using AH? As soon as I swap to mobile data it works fine.

Could be an issue with their own Akamai cache server. They run an onnet akamai cache to speed things up even more.

Traffic to coreix was direct from Telkom to CoreIX now it gets handed over to pccw global then gtt then to coreix.....

Latency to EU is through the roof - guess it's related to cavedog's post above?

@AfriMan what's going on?

My uncle has a Russian D-Link that I've been assisting him with and I decided to email their support about DuckDNS not working and within the same day they had a compiled firmware update for me to test out - took about 3 tries but now (as of 5 mins ago) duckdns is working. Quite impressed.

Glad it's all coming right :)

Not aware of any routing issues, but sometimes our network engineers are tweaking looking for optimal routes and latency. If it doesn't work, they will roll back within a few minutes.

Is it still happening?

Hi Afriman, My problem still exists, clearly this must be congestion, so I am going to ask again, Please help me, what must I do?

There's definitely no general problem that were are seeing on our side. General international performance is pretty good.

Let me check with our NOC if there are poor results for any specific providers.

Latency was > 210ms to EU from Cape Town for a good hour this morning (may have been longer, I only noticed it then) - but appears to be back to normal now.
