I reported that quite a few people were not getting notifications even though they were subscribed on the app, so I think the guys are trying to get that sorted out.

We're definitely getting that sorted - I think that would have helped get information out a lot faster regarding this outage.

Hey guys,

Update as it stands:

Our network team report that they are continuing to monitor the network and are optimising where possible to improve our client’s internet experience. We’d like to thank clients for their continued patience during this outage.
Any idea why the vessel hasn't left yet?

Hi Guys - I asked this already somewhere else, but unfortunately my Fibre Journey is coming to an end next week for a couple of months as I have to go rent while my new place is built, and even when that is finished, i don't think Fibre will be available immediately as it's on the outskirts of PE.

I know this is not really Fibre related, but hear me out please.

The rental i'm going into will have fibre, but only from the end of March (according to Frogfoot ), and i cannot wait that long and need something to tie me over. I will only be there for about 6 - 8 months.

Seems LTE is the next best option, but with the limited choice of MTN and Telkom's packages - which is the better option. I hate Telkom, and don't really want to sign up with them if i can help it but they have two advantages over MTN and that is no cell tower lock and more Data ( 220G+220G ) vs (150 +150)...I can also move around more with the Telkom option, and will most likely be able to use it in the new place for a while till fibre is switched on.

So it looks like Telkom via Afrihost is the way to go for my needs, but.....its TELKOM !

Any advice from people who have ( or had ) either, and which you would go for ?

i would trust mtn's network over telkom any day.
also, this whole tower lock thing, i don't think it's such a big issue, as you can request a tower change apparently, but if it's for the house then why would tower lock be an issue? maybe @AfriMan can comment on tower lock move?

maybe somebody can explain this?
before the cable break, a trace to this server has the same hops as it does now, but latency used to be 180ms, now 200ms.
as you can see, international breakout is from durban as before. is it maybe the return path was coming back west coast, and now it's east coast or what would cause this?

I don't know if my opinions count (my mom says they are very valid). Would always recommend using MTN LTE, as it's giving a great experience right now. I know a lot of people mention the portability, etc, but I'm a big believer in keeping the main thing the main thing. You want internet for home. Unless you really going to be taking your router wherever you go, this is going to solve your main problem. And you want that to be the best experience it can be. That for me trumps any peripheral benefits.

A lot can happen in the different steps. I think we still have to give the guys a chance to work on improving latency. Their main focus has been eliminating packet loss, which it seems they have for the most part. Now they're looking at where to improve overall latency.

out of interest, what is the process and how long does it take to move towers?

Yeah - i guess you are right, and all opinions do count. Helps me see if my opinion on it agrees with others.

Can you confirm if i do move to the new house though, can I request a tower move with MTN if i decide to go with them ?

Waiting for frogfoot to liven our area , eta say tomorrow, then need to wait for installation. After my fibre live should have a telkom uncapped lte contract available for take over , it about r550 per month.
300 gig fair use

I think for now it's still pretty manual, we haven't had a lot of requests like this. If we do see that this becomes a regular occurrence, we may automate this at a later stage.

Does anyone here use KODI or Real-Debrid and are having trouble streaming?

@AfriMan, streaming video content from RD through Kodi is dead. Please confirm if this is not listed as priority traffic.
