Afrihost support couldn't pick up anything on the line or account, says its a sunny day. They can't confirm anything with openserve though so... guessing openserve.

I am losing my mind... 100/100 line. At what point can I expect a refund? At least charge me the rate for a 10/10 line?

How about this then...

My line which is SADV/Afrihost 100/100:

My neighbours line which is SADV/Vodacom Business 10/10:

So to me it looks like an SADV problem being that the same issue is happening on other SADV lines in my area...

Unles I am missing something?

Edit: this issue only exists from 5pm to about 10pm!

The problem though is with ICMP packets is that routers along the route can reject or not respond to them making it look like the line is lossy when it's not.

Try running an iperf even to a cool ideas local server as they are public and submit that to Afrihost to log a fault with SADV urgently. This looks like it could be either a congested OLT on SADV side, Congested backhaul along the line or congested NNI between SADV and Afrihost. The last one being very unlikely as that will cause all SADV customers on Afrihost suffer the same speed issues.

SADV... Got Afrihost to finally log a ticket with them on Tuesday. SADV closed it on Wednesday because they say the line has connection and didn't find any fault

Typical. @PBCool did say in their thread it's one of their biggest challenge to get a FNO to admit and fix a line that has loss on it compared to a line that is completely down.

Moved into a new house last week and managed to get the owners old ONT up and running, Openserve was not happy with this so they came knocking on the door and had the ONT changed. Sitting 3 days without internet because I could not do any troubleshooting during work hours and Afrihost after hour support is terrible , finally managed to get a tech to help with authentication issues.

Big ups to Kamogelo aka "Teddy" for helping me during the evening.

Apart from that my Afrihost experience was much better on Metrofibre, not sure if it is just me but Openserve has a lag before pages opens, it tends to buffer in the background at times, even strolling through Facebook on the phone seems delayed.

That could be a DNS issue. Configure your router with one of the big public DNS servers lile Quad9- 9.9.9.9 or Google - 8.8.8.8 or Cloudflare - 1.1.1.1

Hey Mr Stand in Afrihost support @cavedog

So I have also noticed the lag when opening pages and keen to try a dns provider as you mentioned, but I'm worried it might mess up my routing to gaming services. Would that be the case or am I just being silly?

DNS will not affect routing to gaming services unless those games use hostnames instead of ip addresses and even if they do using the ones mentioned above will route to local DNS servers so it won't change your location.

I have my set to fixed DNS inside the router so all my traffic are using them. I use 9.9.9.9 as main and google 8.8.8.8 as secondary. Latency for me in Centurion to those servers in JHB is about 3ms which is very low. Browsing is very snappy too.
