On my Mibox with NordVPN on, stream is flawless. Turning VPN off, same stream starts buffering 50 seconds in and is just unwatchable. Turn the VPN on, back to awesomeness.... Unshaped my a##.

[mention]AfriMan [/mention] care you explain your “Shaping” , and explain why we need to have a vpn or proxy enabled for seem less streaming ? We paying for a service and expect this to wrk without any proxies etc

more than likely a problem with upstream provider hence the dodgy ping i posted earlier, changing to vpn changes upstream provider. it's not shaping imho.

Wonder who that is ... I was with another reputable ISP , had no issues when with them with regards to this issue , maybe different upstream

afrihost are using telkom as upstream.

I have a daily drop off in performance, where rebooting my router rectifies the issue. Bit annoying though and I'm at a loss explaining it... I suspect my hardware though...

Unfortunately, I'm in this same boat.
Since Sunday evening I've been experiencing issues with the line. It's impossible to stream without vpn.
I'm on 20mb line and getting around to 2mb to severs in Europe, however through vpn is full speed. Local is not affected.
Yesterday evening it was similar experience and it looks like it only happens in the evenings for now.

This is very frustrating and the problem clearly must be provider not the line.

BTW, I'm in Durbanville.

I forgot to add, the ping is acceptable, in 150 -170 range to London.

I have an Afrihost prepaid backup account (one of the few that provide it) and my SDWAN always detects packetloss on Afrihost during netflix time. I'm on Openserve and my primary account on Cool Ideas is as clean as a whistle.

Im with Vumatel in DBN and really struggled last night to find a working stream. I am not prepared to pay for a VPN to get service which I should be getting without it.

I'm measuring end to end loss not the hops. Consistent during early evenings. Rest of the day it is fine,

Interesting could you determine where the loss was coming from?

I do not see that loss so either I'm taking a completely different route on Openserve or there is something else at play here.

If there was loss on the network side that means everyone on Afrihost would have had their international speeds tanked so badly and everyone with 20Mbps+ would be complaining.

Can't get a time from the graph but I'm assuming Netflix time is anytime from 6pm to 10pm right?

Right now at 18:48 this is single thread to London. That would not be possible if there is any loss on the line.

Kodi and real-debrid can barely run a 720p stream.

Same old story , without VPN my third party streams don’t work . I’m going back to cool ideas .. never had this issue with them .

Thanks dude. I logged a ticket with Afrihost as well. They were very prompt but had 2 guys tell me to restart my ONT to refresh my line.

Some clown has filtered ICMP at afrihost. No wonder.
