So then you are shaping my line ?

Don't think just shaping....they are throttling lines!
I'm on 40mb down, getting less than 8mb:

And I logged it with them, 1st I get asked the normal stupid questions to reboot everything.... now I'm waiting for Afrihost to do a speedtest to the ONT(?) as asked by an Openserve tech.... so I can already see it's going to be passed between Afrihost and Openserve, with no resolution soon!

As an aside, friend of mine inside same estate also on Openserve but with Telkom as ISP is atleast getting 65mb out of a 100mb line. So this is a Afrihost thing!

Could you explain why if I test with an Openserve test account, the speeds are ok, but not using my Afrihost account?

With Afrihost account the download is 1MB/s, but with Openserve it is 25MB/s.

I used ftp://ftp-test.telkomadsl.co.za/ and a 512MB file.

Telkom ftp is surely local?
Hey jacoduplooy, this is a very strange case but I'd like to look into this. Please use the MyBB speed test to perform a speed test using your Telkom and Afrihost so that we can compare the results?

Hey TheMannequin
I suspect that your line is faulty however, it's hard to say without running any tests. The fact that your friend gets better speeds doesn't really say anything about your line or where the fault lies. Please drop me a PM with your B number or clientzone username so I can have a look.

I'm on OS and my line gets almost full 100/50 early mornings on local, but during the day (eg: right now) im getting 20 down and 50 up - great pings - just like the other people reporting here. somehow I don't think all our lines are faulty.

First three images are Afrihost, Last three are Openserve,

Used Telkom ftp site for test file, and ftp.is.co.za for Ubunntu.

Some overseas sites are slow with Afrihost

Built a gre tunnel from my mikrotik to my brothers mikrotik (he is on cool ideas) I am sending all my server downloads over the GRE Tunnel he assigned me 20Mbps and I am getting the full 20Mbps over our GRE TUNNEL.

Cool Ideas saving a Afrihost client. SHAMEFUL @AfriFella

Sorry man I am in networking its also my day job. Basically we built a virtual tunnel between the two routers, this sends the traffic from my download server straight over the tunnel which then breaks out via the cool ideas network, instead of my server downloads going directly over the afrihost network (slow network). There is a bit more to it than that though

That could be from Telkom FTP server side where they are limiting the off network bandwidth. It won't be something that Afrihost controls. A trace route shows that Afrihost is peering correctly and low latency with that Telkom FTP server.
