At what time of the day was the test done? Also, how many devices did you have connected? Was the test done via LAN or WiFi?
Hi

It was done at the time of the post - i.e. 6.29PM.
Gigabit LAN
One device streaming DSTV Now - which would not be the reason why my line is 80mbps short of it's speed.

For example I have two devices streaming video right now and this is my speedtest (over LAN)

ISP: Afrihost Other
Ping: 3ms
Download: 95.21Mbps
Upload: 47.3Mbps

Mornings its always ok, as the day goes by it gets slower and slower - but the pings remain the same.

@cavedog From your experience, how long does it take for a line to get put into the holding pool? AH says it can take up to 5 days.

Not supposed to be "up to" They schedule it and it happens on that day. The line will remain active while it's in the holding pool. If it stops working then it has been suspended. Your new ISP will be able to check if it's possible to migrate it.

I see. They messed up earlier this month and my line got suspended on the 15th, so i got them to reinstate it. Makes me wonder if they haven't put in the request at all or if they only put it in this morning when i called them to check why my account is still active.

I see people on facebook posting SADV upgrades are happening. 200Mbps > 500Mbps

My line has not been released

But is it still active?

My current ISP cancelled my service just after midnight on the 31st, so no internet throughput, but did not release the line back to Openserve. So no intertnet the whole of yesterday and today. Been calling them every couple of hours for an update, and all they give me is they will follow up, they will escalate as their system doesn't show the release request being fulfilled on their side.

So not sure if it's the ISP or Openserve being useless, but I'm pulling my hair out trying to get this sorted out. And all IPS's operating on skeleton staff means super long wait times calling them on the phone.

The Openserve process is manual and is walked from desk to desk. I think you will struggle to get connected.

Who is your ISP (new one?) and where are you located? I have Openserve technician in Centurion who set me up when this happened to me a few months ago.

I want to get disconnected lol. To be fair, Afrihost has been helpful and constantly checking if they can pickup my line from the holding pool, but can't do anything until Vodacom releases my line.

I'm actually in Centurion. Current ISP is Vodacom fiber, and like I said they can't seem to get my line released. Everytime I call them, they tell me they will send the ONT release request to Openserve to process, and will call me back to provide feedback in a couple of minutes when Openserve acknowledge the request. They will log it on the system and escalate to a supervisor as well. But when they don't call, and I follow up with them, they have no knowledge of the ONT migration request, and can't find the log on their system and have no record of any emails sent. This has repeated itself 5 times over the past 2 days.

Super frustrating. Would be great if you could get me in touch with your Openserve guy.

I wish I had a Vumatel line. I want 1Gbps :(
Don't think you missing out on much... When testing the line as soon as we go over a 200Mbps speedtest the packet loss goes through the roof. Don't think it's worth it mate. Also the 1Gbps speed will only be achieved at a local server if it can handle it, to jhb servers speedtests from Durban get only around 300Mbps

bad timing for upgrades..WACS still down, right??

Most big ISPs like Afrihost has an api doing that however it is prone to fail especially if something goes wrong in the process which is usually the case

Ooof yeah Vodacom. Someone did complain before took them weeks. Once it's in the holding pool the line will still work. Have you tried using a capped adsl account to test?

Likely but multit hreading will max the line which is helpful. I will be happy with 400Mbps or 500Mbps. 1Gbps will be ideal.

yeah, if you're not living in jhb, 1gbps is a waste.
