Anyone else has their fibre connection timing out round about every two hours?

It started a few days ago but got worse this weekend. Almost seems to be in sync with the 2 hourly loadshedding schedule here in pta (regardless of the area thats actually loadshedding).

I.e. I had loadshedding at 11h and at 17h. Got my connection dropped at 15h, 21h and 23h. Probably at 11h 13h 17h and 19h too but I didnt notice due to my loadshedding.

Help @AfriNatic
When it drops, my browser reports invalid certificate for any webpage i try to open. If I open the dlink router config page, i get a wizard that tries to troubleshoot and reconnect - which doesn't work. Restarting the router/ONT doesn't help either. The connection reestablishes itself about 5 or 10 minutes later whether I interfere or not.

Morning,

Do you have a trace route to show the issue perhaps. If we can get a timeline showing the drops or losses then I can ask our noc team to investigate the issue.

I didn't notice it over the weekend, but I just experienced it a few minutes ago. Rectified itself within 5 minutes.

@AfriNatic - A question... isn't it worth it to split this thread into subforums, for each of the main FNOs (FF, OS, etc) . The majority of people currently reporting errors aren't stating which FNO and/or the area they're in, so it's pretty useless for the rest of us, as far as I'm concerned. Either that , or try and be more specific when reporting issues, as in "Frogfoot / Menlo Park". Or put it in your signature , if you don't want to repeat it every time, probably the better option.... look at mine :)

We can definitely create different threads for each FNO. Some FNOs are quite small with a small client base. Also I see that our section here relatively quiet unless there is an outage.

That will defintely help. Subforum was a bit of an overkill, but you got the idea :D So if people can then just add their location to the posts (or profile) , everything will make more sense

If you have taken advantage of the double speed promo and on Vumatel the Promo is extended for 3 months. :)

Edit: I see the above statement might be a bit confusing.

If you are on Vumatel (excluding Vuma Reach and Mitchell's fibre) the promotion has been extended for Vumatel clients for 3 months. All other networks, clients would need to downgrade in Clientzone if they do not wish to pay the normal price for the doubled speed.

Wait? Really? That's amazing. Is there any considerations for making this permanent?

Vumatel came to the party on with this one. We will keep you posted but for now the promo will end on the 1st of April for Vumatel clients.

Look for the email in your email inbox if you allow email notices to be sent from us. :)

This includes Vumatel, Vuma Aerial and Vuma Villages. Excludes Vuma Reach as before.

I should've signed up with Afrihost...
Uhm no don't do that.

I had a 50 Mbps line with them and 90% of the time the line speed was under 10 Mbps. Decided to opt-in for the double-up promo and thought if I get 10 Mbps on a 50mbps line then Ill probably get above 10mbps on a 100mbps line and it wasn't the case. on the 100 Mbps line had speeds below 8mbps but sometimes when I restart the router it will jump up to 40mbps and slowly but surely make its way back to 8 Mbps.

Decided to move away from Afrihost to Coolideas.

I have a 100 Mbps line with them and I get the following results

During night time, I get more than 90 Mbps download and 70mbps upload

Asked Afritoast support to help, they said that it the router, and If they send out someone it's going to cost R 1000 if there isn't anything wrong with the line, with my luck everything will look super on the day the techie comes out and then I have to cough up 1k.

The funny thing is I am using the exact same hardware that Afrihost gave me, just with CoolIdeas details

So happy I don't have to deal with afritoast anymore

So if two ISPs are giving you subpar results on the same FNO, then common sense would say it has to be investigated by the FNO. Perhaps Packet loss or congestion on the last mile. Which FNO are you with?

That is still a crap result for 100mb, you have a last mile issue with your line.
