Hi,

I'm sorry you are having such a poor experience with us.

We are seeing degraded performance at peak times for certain clients in CPT.

I would like to investigate the issues you are experiencing. Please send me your clientzone email address via a pm.
It is working right now but seems to randomly happen.

I had to switch off my router and ont this morning, then it started working again.

Will send my details via pm.

I do not post often but I felt the urge to chip in here as I feel your pain buddy.
Are you by any chance using Afrihosts freebie Dlink 825? If so, thats almost definitely the culprit (there's a hardware design flaw on this model).
Do yourself a favour take your Dlink outside right now, find yourself a brick, and then pulverise that piece of sh*t into a thousand pieces. I can't promise this will actually help with your wifi disconnect issues but I guarantee it will help with venting the pent up frustrations
I think you are onto something.

I have that exact model, Dlink 825.

Hi,

Do you experiencing the same issue if you connect your pc directly to the ONT?
Nope. The pc works perfectly with the Ont.

My wifi seems to be working fine now. Restarting seems to have worked this time. Thanks

Try this:

Log into the router and go to the Wi-Fi settings
Check for the setting to incrementally check the best channels ( not sure right now the exact wording) set it to check in increments of 30/60 seconds

Set the channel selection to Auto

DNS responses all spiked (returned to normal shortly after)

Openserve, PTA

Not sure what you guys did but my PiHole instance seems to be favouring your 169.1.1.1 DNS over everything else (which indicates lowest resolution latency) but Cloudflare (even 1.1.1.1, which isn't often routed via JHB-CPT-JHB) seems to have taken a NOC (haha)

@AfriNatic - you're in the same region and FNO as me, can you confirm the above pls?

We have redone our DNS servers to increase performance and reliability.

Whatever you guys did to your DNS resolver, please don't change it

Marked resolution time reduction 7-10 percent which is less than a few tenths of a second (I get 2ms ICMP to 169.1.1.1 already) but I enjoy looking at the nice graphs

I have now removed my other upstream resolvers and will be using Afrihost's until I setup my unbound instance (inspired by @r00igev@@r)

Nor sure about this whole fibre thing. At the moment I’m paying premium money for a premium product on a premium network with a premium ISP. Fibre went dead Friday afternoon. Vuma made appt via SMS for past Monday at 12pm for which they did not pitch, nor communicated about. After speaking to Afrihost WA and voice support during which AH supported stated that the break is outside the property, Vuma made another appt for coming Friday at 12 am (Midnight), not sure they’ll pitch though...

Trying to do IT work from home with no internet does not really deliver much.

Any chance I can get a rebate / refund for missing a weeks worth of connectivity?

Price per Mbps for Afrihost Openserve Fibre next month... insane value

25Mbps ($1.64/Mb/)
50Mbps ($1.04Mb/s)
100Mbps ($.63/Mb/s)
200Mbps ($0.38Mb/s)

Now compare the above to the cost of just a single port at Teraco...

Absolute madness pricing even by international developed nation standards

It is indeed great value for money and we hoping being one of the biggest ISPs on Openserve to continue increasing the value for money aspect. :)
