@AfriNatic

Is this thread "purely" for technical discussions or can we raise cost of services here or elsewhere?

Cheers

I am currently on a 50MB pure Fibre package (Metrofibre) at R1127 per month.

I discovered that another ISP is able to provide a 100MB package on Metrofibre at R1199 per month (Currently discounted to R1099 per month until 31 Dec 2021) compared to Afrihost at R1419. Was wondering why there is such a large difference in pricing?

Moving ISP is disruptive, however cost saving is a driver. Can AH offer a similar pricing on the 100MB line via Metrofibre?

Hi,

Right now I'm not aware of any price reductions on MetroFibre. Once there is any changes we will notify client accordingly.

And there Openserve dropped the ball, too many upstream errors to activate the fibre.

Ohh no. This means the order will be pushed back to Openserve cables to identify the issue and fix. After that the contractor will come back to complete the activation.

Thank you @Rickster

Same thing happening tonight on my end, very surprised at how well Afrihost is managing the congestion by just freeloading off of Amazon so gamers don't complain lol

Ignoring the probe downtime this been going on for a while, echo is run by old IS nerds right? would have thought they could manage a network better. unless AH is shifting blame to echo.

Question...

I'm trying to wrap my head around why it technically takes so long to transition from one ISP to another on an existing fibre cable provider?

I mean, the cable is already in the ground and the ONT is owned and managed by the cable provider. The ISP's (current and future) together with the cable provider (Metrofibre) should be able to manage this transition seamlessly... Maybe a couple of packet losses.

I fail to understand why this takes 2-24 hrs.

Can anyone explain?

Cheers

With MFN it's a bit more complicated than just switching. Once the current ISP has loaded the cancellation the line is technically still active with the cancelled ISP for 30 days after that then the address is available for the new ISP just to load an order.

The process to bypass this 30days is for the new ISP to load a repair order for the address. MFN will then request early release from the old ISP which they will then approve and the new ISP gets activated.

Thanks for explaining.

Just thinking... this is the year 2021. Wonder why some automation is not in place to fully automate the process on day xx so that transition for the customer is seamless.

Anyway, maybe i'm just expecting too much.

Hope this "issue" doesn't take much longer to fix because this really isn't okay
