@AfriNatic any way to check what my pending package change is? I know I can cancel and do it again.. I'm sure I downgraded to 100mb but cant remember for sure, just wanted to know if there was another way?

/runs to get a bowl of popcorn =]hi all
I've been battling with something for a few days and I'm pulling my hair out. I'd appreciate some advise and input please.
so i have being paying for a 1000Mbps/200Mbps fiber line the speed tests are quite discussing i have to say i was getting +- 300Mbps/200Mbps. i have had my ont device changed from a gigapoint 801gv2 to a gigapoint 801gv3, was told most the clients that have 1000Mbps line use that one. anyway as i was saying at first i was on 300/200 then logged a call with afrihost which went to vuma they reconfigured the line and well now i dropped to 150-180 down but my upload is always near the 200 mark. i was testing with cat 5e which can do up to 1000Mbps, but was told i need cat 6 so i went to get a cat 6 and lo and hold no improvement at all. I'm told to test from the broadband test page then I'm told no go to ookla and then no lets try the ookla vuma page instead. I'm told that both afrihost and vuma can confirm that my line is in fact 1000Mbps/200Mbps , but i have no proof. In terms of troubleshooting i have done all that they have asked, so what now ?
i feel as if they saying everything is all peachy and now making it my problem. i don't see how anything i have can so drastically cut my speed to like 10%.
Ive even been asked to check my network ports in my pc if they support 1000Mbps :-/
with out seeing what they see that my line is in fact 1000Mbps/200Mpbs at what point does it stop being that speed if in fact it is IE does it stop at the connection box or come out from the connection box to the ont at the desired speed or does it go through the ont and stops at the cat 5e/cat6. what I'm getting at is if the speed is right then when and where does it mess up
What does vumatel speedtest say after connecting directly with ONT?hi all

Have you connected a PC directly to the ONT to rule out the router?hi all

lol ya I like to type longggg stories lol. Yes I have tried that , connected straight to the ont with cat 6 onto my laptop speed test was still +- 300/200/runs to get a bowl of popcorn =]
I'm assuming you tried switching off wi-fi and connecting directly to the ONT?
the same as every other testWhat does vumatel speedtest say after connecting directly with ONT?
Yeah I connected my laptop directly to the ont. well I do download stuff but it finishes to quick to actually max out the line I use nzbs and ya I think it goes to maybe 15Mbps or so not so sure nowHave you connected a PC directly to the ONT to rule out the router?
Have you downloaded multiple files/games/torrents to try and saturate the connection (speedtest really isn't all that accurate)?
Are you on vuma trenched or aerial? What does a single thread speedtest to coreix london look like, try a few london servers just incase? It sounds like your problem is packetloss/congestion (which I think aerial gpon is more affected than trenched active ethernet) , this will show up with very slow speed to international on single thread test. I would expect over 100mb speed on a healthy line.lol ya I like to type longggg stories lol. Aerial can be underground. I know it's confusing. The point I'm making between vuma trenched and aerial is the different network technology. Interesting, didn't know vuma did 500mb upload. I'm sure that is a typo in clientzone. @AfriNatic?Are you on vuma trenched or aerial?
interesting discovery is that i went on my afrihost account last night and discoverd that it has my account as vuma aerial, but erm my line is trenched. i can physically see where it was dug and if i follow it along the road it seems to go into a round lid thing that has metrofiber on the lid. also interestingly is that when i first moved here i kept being told that there was no fiber as yet and will still in roll out and i kept telling them that there was, anyway i called metrofiber and i explained the situation that i found one of there lids just out my gate, having a chat to the lady she checked there plans and initially she couldnt find it but then looked deeper or at another plan that was on the system and she found it, she told me "oh yes we (metrofiber) had the go ahead to roll out in my area and then she told me that vuma took over the area.
speed tests attached

I would downgrade my speed if I'm not getting what I should. Keep your sanity.
Those tests look good though so I don't know.
No worriesaerial can be undergrounddamn i didnt know that. lmao when i first signed up for it i saw ok aerial cool n i went wondering around looking all all the poles in my street lmao but then that makes me think that there is a central point where all the fiber cables meetup i mean from trench to aerial
yeah for some reason i though it was 200 up lol dunno why
sanity? what on earth is that lmao , i'm just scared that if i downgrade then my speeds will go with iti know it shouldn't but ya.
i do appreciate your help and input
edit: i went and checked my clientzone now and i was billed this month for 1000Mbps/200Mbps. i wonder if they bumped up the line not having told me ... if the line is bumped up does that mean the payment has also gone up?

Vuma now offers 1000/500 at R2300pm.No worries
AFAIK Vuma only have 200mb upload, must be a typo.
Sanity as in pay for 100mb and get 100mb. IMHO, with gigabit, you have to worry about:
slow servers
cheap routers
lan driver issues
hdd performance
another neighbour on gigabit contending the street bandwidth
Try it, downgrades happen on the 1st of the new month, if it's too slow, upgrade again which happens in a few minutes while they charge you prorata for the rest of the month.
I tried it when it first came out in durban, I hardly ever saw full speed as most services are located in jhb and backhaul to jhb was the bottleneck. I've settled on 50mb and don't notice any difference when I was on 100mb, other than waiting 10 minutes for a download instead of 5 minutes. Then again, I'm not a gamer with huge updates to get though everytime I switch the playstation on.
As they say, YMMV (your mileage may vary).
Or, if you getting nowhere with AH support (maybe wait for @AfriNatic to get back from leave), try another ISP like @websquadza, as they do go out of their way to fight your battles.
Here are some tests I did yesterday on my new 50/50 metrofibre in glenwood durban:

I doubt they would have moved you up, could just be a glitch in clientzone. @AfriNatic should be back on Monday, maybe wait for him to have a look before you change anything.i get what you are saying to rather pay for what you can get as apposed to what you want to geti may be wrong but i think as long as i change before the 15th then i wont be charged twice, so i may just do that.
this would definatly make me go crazy lol as you said the troubleshooting is already pointing at all this other stuffs
lol playstation tell me about it updates 50gig + but i havnt touched mine in ages *the reason is a long story*
glenwood hey ? i know that area well just moved from there to queensburgh
EDIT: @wingnut771 @KS17 yes that is crazy expensive .... i checked this months invoice and mine says 1000/200 but in the clientzone it says 1000/500 dont know if they moved me up or what ... not like it makes a difference
lol - I just moved from Glen Park Pinetown down to Glenwood. My playstation had a nice layer of dust on it when I packed for the move, controllers batteries completely dead, headset too. I just got over it.i get what you are saying to rather pay for what you can get as apposed to what you want to geti may be wrong but i think as long as i change before the 15th then i wont be charged twice, so i may just do that.

Good morning everyone.
How would I start going about debugging a routing issue? (I assume it's a routing issue?) I have a Factorio server running at home with two friends playing. One is on OS+WebAfrica and the other is on Vodacom Fibre+Vodacom ISP.
The friend on Vodacom can connect perfectly fine (so ports is open and working) but the friend on WebAfrica can't connect (but can ping me)
Any suggestions where to start to figure out what's going on? (All game versions is correct)
