Is anyone else also experiencing heavy packet loss on Afrihost/Frogfoot the past weekend and today?

This is just a snippet from today and it is quite bad.

Thanks, it does not appear to be resolved though or I am having a different issue.

Since this morning have lost connection 3 times due to packet loss.

VPN connection to work has been dropping all morning long.
Play Xonotic over lunch time there were massive spikes in packet loss.
Just had a few minutes off, seems to be back now.

Frogfoot, Stellenbosch.

I just had an outage where at least google services didn't work for just over 5 minutes. On both Afrihost+Frogfoot as well as Afrihost+MTN.

Edit 15:04: Just had another 30 seconds outage.

Hi

This hits our JHB core and then we hand it to Google in JHB who decides to take it to Mombasa Kenya.

Which services are you accessing?

I have been running one since it started. I have not noticed any packetloss in the last 30min affecting my internet use.

Here is a short continues MTR, the packet loss seems to happen in burst. It is stable for a while then suddenly starts again for a few seconds.

@Afrigirl Let's log faults for these clients and then we can esc to Frogfoot to see what might be causing this.

Please pm @Afrigirl your email address or account number so we can have a look.

mail / search / drive - not an issue, but it was always in the 20's which was jhb direct.

I'm not seeing the same in JHB. Tested both v4 and v6 and it's getting traffic from JHB.

Have you tested v6 to see if there is a difference in routing?

I don't use ipv6, never worked well for me.

It is a DNS thing I see, tested against 169.1.1.1 and mail.google.com resolves to 172.217.170.5 whereas mine (controld.com) resolves to 172.217.170.165. The AH one stops in JHB.

I thought based on a previous comment by yourself (talking about Akamai) that dns wouldn't matter for Google, unless it's down to what IPs are advertised on their JHB node or something like that?

Either way, the benefit of controld outweighs the extra 50ms for me personally. I can always force all google.com subdomains to resolve at 169.1.1.1 like I did for akamai if it's an issue.

It shouldn't because it's based on the prefixes we announce to Google.

Very interesting. I wonder what control DNS is doing for google to route you to Kenya.

Can you check where your youtube traffic is coming from?

I just grabbed one of the googlevideo.com URL's from console while a video was playing and that goes to CPT
