Wanting to upgrade to 50/50 from 20/20.

However...

R1117 for 50/50 is a bit far to stretch for the Scrooge McDuck in me.

I'm looking at alternatives (locked to Vumatel), and I see that Level 7 offers 50/50 for R939 (R32 more than what I pay Afrihost for 20/20)

Seeing that Level 7 offers 100/100 for less than Afrihost's 50/50 makes me wonder

Why should I stay?
footnote: The NNTP server is nice, but the retention period is a bit of a downer
 
I have a question about the line speed upgrades. I had a 100mbps line that would upgrade to 200mbps this month. The upload speed has been upgraded (and is currently at 100) but my download speed remains the same. My clientzone package says I should have 200mbps.

Is there a reason why only my upload speed increased and not my download speed? Openserve in my area shows my line should be capable of 200mbps too.

sounds like @AfriNatic just needs to do a port reset for you, send him a PM with your clientzone email

Please send me your clientzone email address via pm. Openserve have reverted some speed changes that has already been completed on Saturday. A port reset should fix this issue.
 
I was really excited about the prospect of having Frogfoot gigabit fibre because their upload speed is also gigabit. At least it's supposed to be gigabit, but the only place where I even remotely see that kind of upload speed is on speedtest.net. Anything else and I only see an average of ~2-3Mbit.

The latest thing I tried which requires decent upload speed is Steam Remote Play to play games on my laptop while I am away from home. I setup all the port forwarding and I got it working via direct connection, but the quality was absolutely abysmal! As you can see from the stats in the bottom left of this screenshot my laptop is only receiving a bitrate of ±1mbit from my PC:

I then tried an experiment with LAN Bench to test the speed between my PC and my laptop and I got the following result:

I was using a 4G connection on my laptop averaging 60Mbits, so I had plenty of bandwidth available and the latency was also really good, but after numerous tests the best upload speed I was able to achieve from my PC to my laptop was a paltry 2,410 kbits/s! That is only 0.2% of my linespeed! :eek:

Is there any way to improve this because I think it's rather disgusting to be getting only 0.2% of the upload speed I pay for. :(

Metro is currently finishing up the infrastructure in my area, should be live in July they said. I see Metro prices are still whack on Afrihost, will the new prices kick in soon?

Mweb for example has a 100mb up and down for R1199 through Metro. Which honestly is still a bad deal since Openserve can give 200mb down for R1049 - R1149 depending on ISP?

I'd rather stick to Rain 5g if the prices don't improve before July.

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any MFN price decreases planned.

Were you uploading to an international source? I'm not sure how exactly steam remote play works there might be a server in between that is not hosted locally.

While Steam does have relay servers that it tries to use for remote play I used Steam console commands to force a direct connection to my machine. I confirmed this via the in-game streaming stats where it says (direct) next to the ping time:

Latency was actually really good between my PC and my laptop (less than 50ms), so at least that is not a problem, just the terrible upload speed. Also if I don't force a direct connection I am not able to connect at all and instead I just get an unable to connect error:

With regards to how Steam Remote play works the support page says the following:

What network ports does remote play use?

Streaming uses UDP ports 27031 and 27036 and TCP ports 27036 and 27037. Please make sure Steam can listen on these ports in your firewall software.

Is it at all possible to give a little extra priority to these ports? I would say 5Mbit at a bare minimum is what is needed for a decent experience at 1080p.

Lastly with regards to international upload speeds I dropped a large file in my Dropbox to see what I am getting there and even that is limited to ±1-2mbit. :confused:

Morning,

I did not notice anything out of the ordinary in JHB side but I do not really play on Blizzard servers.

Better now or still ongoing issue?

I speed tested and got as much speed as I did in 2000...1/2 meg down...

That is yet to be established....No one said it was...Just that Durban was slow, is slow..
