Check phone line filters... try unplugging all phones and see if it helps

No such luck. Tried 2 filters and no phones and still syncing low. Guess it's up to Telkom to fix.

But on the plus side, even though sync is low at least it's more useable now.

It's all over the place right now. It's been down to 408 but seems to be sticking at 608 right now.
I spoke to someone there and they've escalated it. How long it might take is anyone's guess.
Whatever they've been doing has now wiped out calls on the line too. But yea, definitely something funky on Telkom side.

Seems like it's a line issue, perhaps weather related if you're in Gauteng. If the voice service has gone, perhaps there is a cable break somewhere or the cable is "one-legged" so only partially connected :(

I've had enough of technology. I'm going to run away and become some lunatic mountain man. Communicate with various trained rodents.

So i'm on 70GB for the month on my 4MB uncapped, i didn't think that's extraordinary?

Shaping Policy: 75% Download/ 75% P2P

That's a bit crazy isn't it, on a saturday afternoon, really? My usage had a huge spike 1st of the month, but since then it's been easy going, so how long does one sit with this rather black mark? As it is i can't stream squat, nevermind download anything.

Will the Business ADSL uncapped product solve this particular problem ? (i.e. being shaped to death for 70GB usage?)

It just depends on demand. We don't shape for any reason other than we see more demand than available capacity. It hasn't been too bad during recent weekends, and we're seeing very little shaping in the south and east, however Northern IPC is still experiencing fairly heave demand for a saturday. Perhaps some IT people are doing Windows Updates over the weekend, or scheduled updates :(

Try force your modem to used G.DMT modulation (if it is not already) ADSL2+ does not like bad lines.....

I am very frustrated. I am running 1mb uncapped and only at 45gigs so far yet shaping at 25% / 12.5% almost all the time. I reside in Edenvale, Gauteng if that helps.

Shaping in the North is fairly light, but still more than we'd like. It should improve as usage dies down. You should definitely be shaped less (or not at all) overnight so best to schedule any P2P downloads for then :(

I haven't had a 1Mb line in a while so I was slightly off with the calculation.
You're right. Assuming 104KB/s for 31 days, you'd hit 272000MB = 265GB. Add 15% upload overhead (usually 10, but I've seen up to 15), and you get 305GB. Now add the fact that you could have a 2Mb line, and you'd see it maxing "1Mbps" and then you've got 338GB a month. But yes, it's highly improbably that one would reach that with 24/7 streaming, as you'd spend the better part of the month buffering.

Could be. Afrihost said it's hard to prove though.

Indeed. I think these bandwidth hungry buggers need to be put on a seperate backbone, and THEY can be shaped for abusing, so the rest of us can have what we pay for. I have dobne 75 Gb this month, on a 10 mbps line. If that is not reasonable I don't know what is....

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. Just have to track the setting down.

Any idea where the setting is on the Netgear DGN1000?

Found it. I kept overlooking it. Already I'm back syncing at 1024. Thanks for the tip.

ADSL settings on the left hand side I presume, you may have a list, untick all but the one you want to try, we only have the 2 mentioned in sa so no point trying the rest
