Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

ive been thinking about it but will work out alot more :P how much do you consume? you dont seem like the torrent type

Torrents? What're those? Lol :D Of course I am (not) ;)

Basically, I've got an Afrihost Capped account from 6am to 6pm, during that period I usually use around 130GB per month. But then I've got an after-hours account, which I use for downloads, which I use about 300GB p/m on.

Just logged into clientzone now. Did 39Gb on my 20Mb uncapped account over 5 days, and shaping has been applied

Shaping Policy: 10% Download / 5% P2P

What a fcken joke.

Remember that even though we've received an upgrade, there is going to be a degree of shaping at some point, especially during the midday peak. However we expect that there will be longer periods that are less shaped or unshaped.

Hi Afriman/guy/girl

I was wondering why there are 2 active DSL sessions on my single line?
The IP addresses are different. My tel. number is the same for both.

It is a 1Mb uncapped account.

If you visit each IP address from your local network, do you get your router's login page for both?

Z

Some sessions take a while to close up.
It's off the same number so shouldn't be too much to be concerned about. If you still see this after an hour or so drop me a PM :)

That sucks! Are you having any general connectivity problems, especially with other video streams?

Any tests you can post for me?

It improved over the weekend but tonight it's terrible!

How do I do tests?

Good Evening

I am a newly signed up Customer but i am getting very poor service on my line. It's 4mb Line. When i do a speedtest on speedtest.net it firstly says that my location is for some reason in Maseru, Which is incorrect as I am in Centurion, and my results on the speedtest are a Ping of over 900ms, and max downspeed of 0.18 mbps. What is going on? i switched over from another ISP and now this is happening.

This is my result using the mybroadband speed test
Last Result:
Download Speed: 132 kbps (16.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 63 kbps (7.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 1049 ms

Heyo :D

You may have been incorrectly placed onto the wrong IPC :/
Could you please run my first tool below and post the results :)

We can't guarantee that services like Netflix, Hulu etc can be unshaped due to the workarounds and 3rd party methods :( Generally speaking though, even if shaping is being applied to your account realtime services are never shaped.

Hi AfriGuy,

Traffic to Netflix and Hulu are shaped into the ground and below.
As soon as I change to my Web Africa account, I'm streaming in HD.
The bottleneck is on the Afrihost network.

When can we expect for this to be resolved, its getting kinda silly now.

It seems to have improved overnight. Here are the results. Was maybe just the line that had to catchup to the new ISP settings.

Your latency is pretty high - definitely looks like there's a problem there, but would be better to see more specific tests like traceroutes and pingtests. The location in speedtest could just be because they don't recognise the IP range yet. We're constantly new IP ranges onto the network and it sometimes takes the geolocation services some time to update their databases. I wouldn't be too worried about that.

We are expecting an upgrade to the South IPC to relieve the intermittent contention when demand is at peak.

Thanks AfriMan.
This might sound doff, but when you say "South", not sure where about you're referring to.
I'm based in Gauteng, Randburg.
Any idea when this will come to pass? I'll even take a ballpark estimate :D

Looks like you're testing over WiFI here, cos your ping to your router shouldn't be higher than 1ms. Could you do a clean test with a LAN cable?

No dates on Axxess' website yet: https://www.axxess.co.za/networkstatus

Why don't Afrihost show this under their "Network Status"?

That's pretty nice of them to have that kind of visibility.
I'm in Randburg, and I'm trying to figure out if I fit into the "Southern Region", even though I'm in the North.

I refuse to believe that this is what is being offered after an upgrade.
