Please confirm everyone experiencing these problems are in Somerset West, just so we can clarify that it is an area thing.

As you can see, pings haven't fluctuated much for me

Just received confirmation from the MTN network engineers that everything from the IPC on to the MTN network is in order. It appears that the problem is on the Telkom network and may be exchange related, but we have yet to receive feedback from Telkom.

Somerset West Exchange Issues

Thanks Afrihost.
The issues in Somerset West are still ongoing. 125ms ping to Afrihost.com

I have logged a fault with Telkom on 10210. They said they are not aware of any issues - so this may take a while. I would urge everyone in Somerset West who is experiencing issues to log faults directly with Telkom as well.

considering changing to Afrihost uncapped? is it worth it?

whats there cancellation terms if i dont like the service after 1 month?

I think it's worth it. You can instruct Afrihost to not bill the following month any time before the 25th.

Internet is still totally unusable in Somerset West @ 09:02.

Morning Sweet Peoples

Sorry if I missed some posts and issues this weekend. Big thanks to the Dev Team who jumped in to help. I'll be working my way through the PM's I received as well, so will be up to date soon.

I see there were issues in the Cape, we're checking with Telkom via MTN exactly when this will be resolved. In Joburg, seems like most people had no power anyway (including me) but otherwise there didn't seem to be issues when the lights came back on.

Let me know if there was anything critical that I missed, I'll get right on it :)

Restarted the router a few times and I seem to be up and running. As usual though, speed tests are terrible - between 1 and 3 Mbps. I can only get 550KB/s with download managers.

Hi AfriMan, are you specifically referring to the Somerset West issues? The internet is effectively unusable here.
Telkom are dragging their heals as usual. This is certainly a new problem - i.e. throughput has not been a problem in the last 12 months - but this started over the weekend. I would guess that their has been an equipment/link failure in the exchange.

I'm not home right now but this morning it was working fine, just pings were off the chart.

I'm also stuck with MWEB until Aug, their cancellation process is horrific - been 4 days since I sent my cancellation form and still no response.

I agree... They work on a full month process for cancellations so if you send through your cancellation letter today for eg. the letter only comes into effect on the 1st May which means that at the 1st of June you will only be able to move to your preferred ISP

This is what I'm dealing with. Normally get 8mbps without any issues. Something on Telkom's network in Somerset West has failed and they refuse to recognise it!
