Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Cape Town on an 8meg sync'd line. And regularly stream HD tv, but not tonight!

Afriman, when can we expect static IP addresses??

Would love to move but it is the only thing holding me back now, a bonded service would also be great!! :D

We've been working on Static IP's for some time, and we're close to offering something. The barriers have mainly been similar to bonded ADSL, which is the hardware on the clientside which is extremely costly. We're looking to offer static IP's at an affordable cost to client, so when we have finalised the hardware component, we should have something attractive to offer ;)

Hi Afriman

I'm having massive packet loss on League of Legends tonight. Latency up and down and delays of up to 5 seconds in game.
You say that the network is running on a backup support but this is what i get to international sites.

Local:

Although the ping looks great I don't get lower than 300ms in game.

Your tech team said it was my line and i have to disagree because local is fine.

Have you given this feedback to our Priority Support guys? Please PM me and let me know who you've been dealing with so I can get them to follow up ASAP.

How weird local content works fine, its only international that is up the creek.

Getting seriously annoyed at the moment

Aren't you able to assign a static IP to the client's MAC on their router or to their phone line?

Home users won't generally have a need for more than 1 static IP.

Also something is broken with international streaming.

Thanks, you guys should look at Billion routers, half the price of the Cisco routers and they do the same job....

Mweb now offer static IP addresses and bonded services with the option of either a billion or Cisco router.

I see Internet Solutions use a Netgear router, which is a horrible unreliable router..... Don't go netgear please!

The max speed my line can take is 2Mbps.... So I'm stuck up the proverbial creek.

At this stage I can't afford higher speeds, am content with a 1Mb uncapped account for now.

Yip, going to investigate that, although my internet is working once again this morning.

This indicates typical Exchange or DSLAM congestion.

I had the same problem nearly 2 month ago, luckily I had a VERY clever technician on my call out, who phoned a Specialist whom investigated my exchange and dslam and moved me over to a non-congested DSLAM.

Congestion depends on when the max amount of users are online (and what they're doing). If you're in a residential area, usage will peak after hours, whereas business areas peak during the day. If people are running file sharing and torrents, that has a tendency to consume a constant stream of bandwidth, as opposed to fluctuating levels for real time services and other protocols.
