Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Seems like we're still getting reports of issues in Somerset West, but Telkom are still not getting back to us.

To take this forward, can I ask that anyone who's affected by this and who's line is managed by us send me a PM? Will just need your username and line number. We're hoping we can push Telkom for some feedback by going this route.

Thanks :)

@AfriMan, the Somerset West issues are certainly still ongoing. I had a call from a Telkom engineer this morning who said they have received many logged faults, but they are not sure what the problem is. Could AfriHost get someone senior there to put some pressure on Telkom? You guys have a hell of a lot more chance of getting anywhere with Telkom than we do.

Been having a ball on AH this month, great service, consistently. Thanks guys, good service is always appreciated

Its weird? Every single morning between 3-5, the pings greatly decrease and the speed greatly improves.

EDIT:This is somerset west by the way

Probably because demand for the internet is much lower then, resulting in less congestion?

poor international again tonight and I'm on capped service with afrihost. Any other ISP capped account I use is flying.

No offense but you really need to review your service level agreement with Telkom if they wont even return your calls regarding line faults.

Why do you think there'd be an SLA? Do you have one with Telkom if your line is not managed by Afrihost? Placing the line in Afrihost's care really doesn't change a whole lot, apart from saving you a couple of Rands per month.

A private person rarely has any other option but to accept standard terms and conditions but bulk users of any service can and should negotiate a minimum acceptable level of service (especially if they are reselling and offering to manage the service on behalf of their clients), if they dont then there doing it wrong IMO.

I don't disagree that the argument can be made; I'm simply urging cognisance of the fact that we are talking Telkom. If the option is within reach for Afrihost to negotiate better terms then I'd obviously approve, but I suspect they aren't & there's not a hell of a lot anyone can do about it unfortunately.

Like clockwork, 8pm comes and my Internet is beyond useless!

Mine is usually ok until around 11, when it dies completely. This will be the fifth consecutive night if it occurs again.

Edit: I'm getting 990Kbps! Maybe I missed the degraded service on previous evenings because I was just browsing the net.

2nd edit: Less than 100Kbps now. Properly slow...

International latency abroad a little bit up, but local route still fine, overall no problem even with the slight increase in latency abroad
