Afrihost Uncapped DSL Feedback

Looks like you're seeing latency on both capped and uncapped. I'm using a regular capped account, so our results should be similar.

Are you testing the other accounts using passthrough? Just want to make sure I am reading them correctly.

Yes, using pass through for both the 1 Gig and mweb account, But getting similar results when not using pass through. Been using Mweb account in evenings between 1900 and 2200 for a couple of nights as Afrihost is unusable

I am on a 20 Mbps Premium Uncapped bundle and cannot even open TakeALot, use GitHub's services, stream Netflix without stutters and Python 3.6's 30 MB download simply froze. This has been going on in the evenings since I signed up. The connection to LiquidVPN's network keeps dropping the moment I connect.

Here's my speedtest. On a good day I can get about 16.5Mbps, so I'm not too unhappy, given that this is pretty much peak demand.

Let me check with any of our team if they have Uncapped accounts so we can check if this is maybe something we can replicate.

Can you please let me know if you're seeing packet loss (on a ping test) and also run a trace route?

I'll kick it up to our NOC team :(

It took me enough time to order from Steers Grahamstown, eat and finish eating while trying to access imgur just so that I could upload this image.

I believe I have been patient. The DSL market is a relatively free market and this has been going on for too long. Thank you, Afrihost, for not binding me to a service contract.

Though all my webpages are loading like a charm now

This is just plain ridiculous.

I've a 4mb uncapped account. Never had issues with Afrihost and was using the 50gb capped package since signing up with Afrihost but the last 2/3 weeks the evenings have just been bad with me struggling to do anything on the net.

Tonight being the worst of all. Needed to work on my website but can't do anything.

Indeed! Everything IS back to normal!

So will we be seeing a improvement in performance by Friday? Streaming was terrible again last night, what is the last day for cancellation every month? Is there any point in having a business account if it performs the same as a premium uncapped account? I thought the whole point of business uncapped was to have priority on your network?

Good point. Is there really any difference between Home Uncapped, Premium Uncapped and Business Uncapped with the state the network is currently in? They are all being shaped (and I can't see a difference in the degree of shaping during congested periods either)

Now that we know Afrihost "shapes" between 7pm and 10pm then it's easy to establish how much extra you have to pay for completely uncapped unshaped. The next problem will be contention

I'd still love to know why real-time service are being shaped.

I'd also love to know if this fabled extra capacity is going to make a difference soon. Like today.

My gut tells me we're going to see the shaping policies change soon. If we want to be unshaped and uncapped we're going to pay.
