Afrihost Uncapped DSL Feedback

Definitely a major issue happening here. Haven't accessed DSTV Catch Up in the last two weeks but right now the buffering is terrible. YouTube is streaming seamlessly.

What sort of Uncapped account do you have with us? Generally speaking we don't shape streaming services at all. Which DNS Servers are you using at the moment?

Downloads from nexus dead as well and i'm meant to be unshaped due to turbocharge

And before anyone asks i'm on 10mb uncapped premium

Same here. Even with turbocharge.

And AH, you say you generally don't shape streaming but that's exactly the problem most of us have had since this started. Dear lord

Which streaming service isn't running well for you at the moment?

The Turbocharge session is definitely active at the moment. You are seeing normal speeds on Speedtest.net right?

Yes

Though even if i try download the gentoo amd64 iso, i get crap speeds

Download from saix.net the same

I'm commenting on this. You say you don't shape streaming yet streaming has been shaped for over a week at peak.

left is 40mbps right is 20mbps both business. both bad

Some of the Uncapped accounts were not running as well as they should have been due to the issue with the classification of traffic that we had.

It wasn't specifically because we were shaping streaming traffic.

I'll give you this at least. You're finally actually here to provide support during the problem.

Its sad though the extremes one has to go to in order to get that support. Who is going to reimburse of the rands spent trying to PROVE that its NOT client equipment? I'm probably about 2.5k out of pocket.

Using Afrihost 4mb uncapped.

Downloading the latest version of Ubuntu and its running at FULL speed...with another ISP. With Afrihost, its snails pace.

@AfriGenie...using 4MB uncapped, in case thats your next question. DNS is set to auto, so its using yours as default.

I have been having massive timeouts this past 2 weeks. Can't even attempt to play a game that you have to commit to (e.g. CS/Dota2/etc. as it will just result in me getting banned, Diablo 3 rubberbands which is going to cost me a keyboard ...) It's as if I'm getting throttled into oblivion even though my line/account says everything is 100%. My linespeed is not 8mb though, every night it seems to drop lower and lower. Line speed now is 6.8mb
I have a ticket open PBX-732-92361 but no luck from that. I'm not even tracing routes outside of the Afrihost network, this latency is all internal it seems, apart from the last hop (which should also be Afrihost but looks to be hosted somewhere else)

Tonight is a bit better than the last week but it still times out (e.g. Hotmail)

Trace route of tonight (it's a lot better, atleast now I can attempt to open up my mail instead of not getting in at all but it still fails a bit)
Problem seems to be with jhb-up3.ip.adsl.co.za [169.1.5.29]. It still has constant timeouts and this IP has had >2000ms ping with last night's traces (and all the other nights I have tried)

Doing a whois on the last ip seems to indicate that it's not in JHB, it's in Kimberley ...
And the 6.8mb sync rate seems broken, here's a speedtest result
http://www.speedtest.net/result/6284411125
PING 24 ms
DOWNLOAD 5.84 Mbps
UPLOAD 0.32 Mbps

Most of the times that I have tried doing a speedtest this past week it doesn't even start an upload, just fails

Incidentally, forgot to mention (but's it's on my ticket). My internet problems seem to go away after about 10pm-ish. I mostly only get home between 7/8 at night so I don't know if this happens during the day, but at 7 everything is still fine, open my mails, browse GitHub, etc. but after that is starts getting dismal and round about now it magically rectifies itself ... Problem is that I can't start gaming at 22h30 at night

Traceroute of now (22h15)

I still get timeouts on the one IP but atleast my internet doesn't fail into the ground

It really does depend on the type of HTTP download. Depending on the type of Uncapped account you have, you will be able to use Turbocharge to make sure that you're able to use Dropbox and Mega when you need to.

Premium Uncapped and I needed to open KiB sized presentations on my lecturer's dropbox

Thanks for the traceroute results. I've asked our Team to check what's going on.

I don't get this, you will ask your team to check what's going on? Your team should be constantly monitoring what's going on at this point.

It doesn't fill me with much confidence that I am going to see an improvement by Friday.
