Afrihost Uncapped DSL Feedback

I understand that there are IPC issues, and so forth. Though if I'm unable to even get 10%(Being very lenient here) of my line at a stable rate for shapped services, something is wrong and I will start looking elsewhere. Its great and all that youtube/twitch and things are not really affected as you classify them as realtime services.

Though if I want to download a file and it fails every damn time because i'm getting between 2kb and 30kb (And packet loss which causes 0kb/s). Something is horribly broken and I proved last night even enabling turbocharge doesn't really fix anything (kinda improved browsing speed but that was not the reason I used it).

I have been having massive timeouts this past 2 weeks. Can't even attempt to play a game that you have to commit to (e.g. CS/Dota2/etc. as it will just result in me getting banned, Diablo 3 rubberbands which is going to cost me a keyboard ...) It's as if I'm getting throttled into oblivion even though my line/account says everything is 100%. My linespeed is not 8mb though, every night it seems to drop lower and lower. Line speed now is 6.8mb
I have a ticket open PBX-732-92361 but no luck from that. I'm not even tracing routes outside of the Afrihost network, this latency is all internal it seems, apart from the last hop (which should also be Afrihost but looks to be hosted somewhere else)

Tonight is a bit better than the last week but it still times out (e.g. Hotmail)
Trace route of last night (and pretty much the last week since I logged the ticket)

Trace route of tonight (it's a lot better, atleast now I can attempt to open up my mail instead of not getting in at all but it still fails a bit)
Problem seems to be with jhb-up3.ip.adsl.co.za [169.1.5.29]. It still has constant timeouts and this IP has had >2000ms ping with last night's traces (and all the other nights I have tried)

Seeing some crazy latency here. :( Mind running a ping to bras.afrihost.com?

Any reason we cant access the CZ when our account is suspended? At least give us access to the damn thing so we can pay it.

PS: Also that Visa OTP verification website.
:)

Premium Uncapped and I needed to open KiB sized presentations on my lecturer's dropbox

Did running Turbocharge improve your experience? With that being said, please let me know if you're still experiencing issues and we'll troubleshoot this together.

Perhaps comparing results with an Unshaped Capped test account during the same time will also be a good test? Please let me know if you're still experiencing issues with current Uncapped account, though.

You should have access to it while suspended. We only stop CZ access once a client is terminate. Please drop me a PM reminding me of your info and take a look at what's up. :)

Thanks.

I get no connection light but I have a DSL sync light.

As I mentioned, there is a process that has to be followed. As soon as we confirmed and had a chance to review, our first priority was to let the community here know so that we maintain transparency.

Where is this information on the afrihost site? Surely you dont expect Afrihost clients to come here for updates that affect them?I cant see anything on the network status that indicates anything about upgrading infrastructure.

this has been affecting me the whole week, and I have been giving tracert and pings the whole week as well. Its your shaping system that is breaking.

see post #666 and #646 as you can see youtube/twitch is fine though downloads don't work, Why are you side stepping an issue that has been raised countless times. Telling me to try the capped unshapped account.

....afrihost spinning stories again...excuse, upon excuse, upon excuse.

@AfriFella, Genie or whatever other names you using - Not sure if you've seen but SEACOM is going down again in a few weeks. Are you ready for it? Do you have a contingency in place to re-route with backup links? Sorry if I am not appearing optimistic but you guys have let a lot of your clients down. Plenty of the referrals that I've done are EXTREMELY angry at me, have cancelled their accs and now have doubt about other services I've been trying to deliver to them. Thanks guys. Appreciate it.

Would you like me to draw you a picture?

I've had it with you idiots and your smarmy, ingratiating, disingenuous attitude towards customer service. Adios!

+1 ...not like they care. they make enough revenue from the existing client base who have no sight of the current problem

OK critical care sent me a mail with a test account, so i'm gonna bite the bullet and do the tests -_- though my patience is running thin

My attitude is this at the moment. I am not going to do any further testing on behalf of Afrihost.
It has been acknowledged by Afrihost that there major issues on their side, which according to them they are in the process of addressing.
Maintaining the network their responsibility, not mine.

To be fair I will give it until the weekend and if things do not improve drastically, I will look for another ISP for both work and home accounts.

I wanted to move ADSL to AH, guess I will keep on looking for another provider....

We generally don't update the network status for upgrades if we don't expect said upgrades to affect the network in any negative way (i.e connectivity drops or downtime).

I'm not trying to side step the fact that your downloads will sometimes be shaped on Premium Uncapped. I am suggesting that if you want an unshaped experience, perhaps comparing with a Capped account will be a good test.

This might have been shaped heavier than usual in the last few days, but your experience should be improved going forward. Keep me in the loop.

Thanks for the heads up. :) Luckily we don't rely on Seacom at all. Our Primary undersea cables are WACS and EASSy.

I had cancelled until I realised the new ISP was having problems. So where do we go?

I don't recommend it

That's nonsense. You're just trying to contain the fact that there's a big problem. You should have it listed as a network status.
