Afrihost Uncapped DSL Feedback

With regards to connectivity issues in the South. We have rolled over to a new link, but it looks clients with static IP address will still have a connection problem. :(

We still working on this and hopefully this will be sorted soon! :)

I am assuming you mean Cape Town. I cannot even stream dstv now at it's lowest quality setting on an 8mb/s line.
International is atrocious. Getting 1.5 mb/s to Italy.

This is on a dynamic IP.

Yes, the South of our network definitely includes Cape Town. This issue was resolved on the same day. How did your connection perform over the course of the weekend?

About a half an hour after I did that post everything returned back to normal thanks.
I could stream the rugby without any issues and D/L's were all good again.

Great to hear! :) Just in time for the win!

I never received an answer as to why these issues keep happening in Durban. It's the same story again today.

We're definitely not seeing any general issues in Durban at the moment. What are you experiencing?

Does anyone 100% know what the upload speeds are for the different lines?

For 1, 2, 4, 8, 10, 20, 40mbps?

For DSL?

If I'm not mistaken, it's 512kbps for everything up to 10mbps, and then 2Mbps for 20 and 3Mbps for 40.

Haven't answered this question in ages - hope I remembered it right ...

Yo so quick question, Showmax as regarded is real-time and never shaped right? I ask because yesterday the Explora 2, which is connected to the internet, was not able to stream to Showmax or CatchUp properly at SD or HD. Opening Showmax on my PC got the same result. Youtube was fine. Any thoughts?

I was asking because my 8mbps is showing 766kbps on the router. I wasn't sure if 8mbps had 1mbps upload or not.

I'm not 100% sure what kind of protocols are being used when streaming Showmax, but regardless, it should be realtime and you shouldn't have any problems. The only other cause I could think of is DNS or CDN caching that might be happening on the network. Are you using any custom DNS settings?

Problem is that it was fine this morning and now it's dropped all the way down. Can you guys investigate? We got the faster line specifically to accommodate this. The Explora is showing 1mbps when using the connectivity checker and videos are buffering even on SD. When I try showmax on my PC, it's all over the place as well in terms of speed, buffering and what not. Can you guys reset the account or something? Maybe it has something to do with moving from 4 to 8 mid month? I had a similar issues ages ago when there was shaping that what put ont he account for no reason and was corrected. Can you look into that?

And I see Twitch is STILL not fixed. I'm getting 600kbps on a VOD...on an 8mbps line...

Do you have QoS setup on your home network? It could be that your router itself is prioritizing certain kinds of traffic?

I do but only for the explora. My PC isn't being managed and yet it too is getting bad throughput on Showmax the same time the Explora started acting up. Tested right now on my PC. Getting only 2.3mbps.

EDIT: See, like now at 7:00AM, everything is fine at the moment.

Could you disable the QoS and see if that makes any difference?
