i cant believe the extent of the shaping on the 4meg accounts after the 30gig threshold. at this rate id be lucky to ever get to 60gigs. the shaping is far worse than what is implied in their terms and conditions.. isnt that illegal? i also cant believe that the slower account's speeds are reduced so much either. in my opinion there is no need to throttle someone whos on a 384 or 512 line.

Guys

Best way to get a refund is on Hellopeter. Just got a call 5min after posting there. I have a written email now confirming they will refund it

Hey man! What do I need to do on Hellopeter? And are you being refunded pro-rata or full?
Would appreciate the help!

Hi

Well i logged a complaint to ASA and copied afrihost. Lets see what comes of it:

------------------------------------------------------------------
Good day Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa

I would like to lodge a complaint against the ISP known as Afrihost.

Last month they were advertising and selling a product on their website which was a 384 uncapped data account. Nowhere in the terms and conditions did they make mention of any restrictions or thresholds.

I received a communication from them that they have changed the conditions in such a way that the account is unusable, with a 10GB data limit. This was done without my prior consent and all communication for a refund has fallen on deaf ears.

This has been the experience of many user on the mybroadband.co.za forums and I would like to lodge an official complaint

------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you email - isn't there an automated form on the website?

So my friend just told me his friend who's on Afrihost got an email, asked to explain what he was downloading legally or they will close his account? I can not confirm the validity of this story but just think it's interesting to let you guys know. That person is apparently on 30 or 60gigs.

there is another disturbing trend I noticed - my uncapped keeps on dropping and reconnecting - couple of times per hour - thought it might be with the line so I swapped to my normal capped - not a single drop in 4 hours and counting

I noticed that too, my downloads reset every hour. After looking at hellopeter.com, I am surprised at the amount of complaints there are for afrihost in general. They do have balls telling most of the people to go somewhere else, I think they just need to explain to people their T's & C's.

I'm going to go out on a limb and call this complete, utter and unfounded hearsay.

Thankfully I'm not the only one...even though I've cancelled I figured I'd give them the rest of the month to see if things improved but I almost thought my modem was faulty there for a bit with all these restarts - but then when switching to one of my other capped accounts I had no problems whatsover (and an improvement in speed...how I had missed you fast internet!). So even if we did accept their "uncapped yet throttled to death" service we'd have to deal with constant disconnects (so much for my service packs being downloaded safely via http without a download manager).

As was mentioned, i'm pretty sure he got the "standard" letter which IS forwards to Afrihost and which Afrihost forwards to you when you're caught by an international company while downloading what they deem illegal content. Afrihost has been sending these letters out long BEFORE uncapped, just do a search on this forum.

Now whether they actually closed anyone's accounts or what exactly one has to do to "remedy" the situation is another story. So far it looks to be merely threats.

Torrents say "no thanks" You Tube says "hold your horses i am buffering" and MyBB says "page timed out" :-/
Just downgraded back to my 1Gb account and will give Mweb a months trial in May.

On a side note, does openweb still resell Mweb accounts?? I Can't seem to find it.

I have now canceled 15 accounts from Afrihost. Well, all 15 people I directed to Afrihost have now canceled their accounts with Afrihost. Actually that makes it 16 accounts if I count mine. Most of us moved to the axxess express + account. I sign up 5 days ago with them and already downloaded around 50 gigs.

Afrihost really pulled a number on us!

At the end of the day, they might have pulled a number on themselves.

I think we need to start a petition against any ISP who sells uncapped adsl accounts and then shape the cr@p out of them so they run at dial-up speeds!
That must be illegal?

Why even bother having different speed packages when they all seem to be throttled to 10kb/sec (or less) eventually.
Why not just sell the accounts as 30 gig accounts or something?
