Attached a pic of my setup. Im pretty sure it is a 1C battery based on the specs. Just wanted to confirm before I go ahead and make the change? Should be fine at 100a right?
The inverter "should" talk to the the BMS to set the charge and discharge rates a automatically. It not doing this correctly is perhaps more concerning.

It's what the brochure says. Your installer may have additional information as to whether it is accurate or not, I assume that he is experienced in the Volta battery? May be wise to give him a call first and confirm.
Discharging and charging at a lower rate is better for the battery's longevity and he may have set it up that way for this reason. On the other hand, if it really is 1C and you've paid for it, then it ought to be able to do it, and it's pretty pointless to have a solution that cannot boil a kettle. Just check the warranty terms and conditions as well.

What I don''t understand is, if it is running through the inverter 24/7, and the inverter is set to 40a, then does that not mean Im limited to .40 x 5kw = 2kw at any given time? Or is that just the limit during load shedding?

The other interesting thing is during load shedding, I switched on the microwave, hair dryer and aircon and it went over 3kw without tripping...
 
Is anyone running a long cable from the RS485 port on the inverter to their Pi/NUC/whatever else? Any issues with the comms?

I'm going to go the kellerza Home Assistant addon route and my HA machine will be 9 metres away from the inverter. A quick Google shows RS485 upto 12m is fine with no drop in speed. I got this adaptor to use with it:

During load shedding you can only draw less than 1920W (40A x 48V).

Probably drawing the balance from grid.

Your installer needs to explain why - 'wont work' is not an explanation.

Not sure if you posted the battery spec/info but could you post a picture as per the sticker or booklet you were supplied with?

The fudginess that one get's from installers boggles my mind (my neighbour's Installer tripped her municipal meter a couple of times and fobbed her off until I drew her a few diagrams with flows and gave her questions to grill him with - suddenly he pulled in his 'expert' who then sorted everything out properly)

PS good call on leaving it until Monday - Installer must attend to it

Finally back up. Anyone know how to remove the Generator from Deye screen? It’s showing up no randomly

The max discharge is there if you want to be conservative and not "overtax" the battery. So like in this case the max discharge is less than the bms so it cuts out cos of that value.
Theoretically the bms will cut out only if the max discharge is higher than the bms value.

I use it probably with 10m cable, no problem.

I don't know if its really an issue - but you're supposed to have 50cm open all round the inverter for air circulation.

Noted...I'll keep an eye on the temps..luckily it's in my garage which is always pretty cold..
 
Maybe silly question, if I switch the ac db to Eskom, in theory the inverter is then bypassed from the home, so any solar generated should go directly into the batteries?

Would it still draw from eskom if it needed grid charge?

Basically thinking of forcing the inverter to use full charge from the sun to get batteries to 100% and balance.

If im understanding your requirements correctly, under system mode you can select the setting priority batt.

That would depend on how the sparky wired it up. On mine the changeover switch determines what gets sent to the db (Eskom/inverter) and then there is a separate circuit breaker which cuts the Eskom feed to the inverter.

I know this one is used to bypass load so it "should" take the inverter out of the "home" circuit and in theory isolate the dc system to itself. There is a breaker before that one that I think kills the inverter totally from the bypass circuit ie: by the green light.
