All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

1. Yes. It's zero export of all power, not just pv. Use timers on your geyser.
2. Yeah it's ignored and would discharge to the shutdown level set in your battery menu. But when there's load shedding your non-essentials go down too so no need to worry about them drawing power.
3. You could probably automate it via home assistant...

Thank you, still need to mentally figure out when to save the batteries vs when to use them.

I've got a solar geyser with a timer so that's not a problem, the unexpected 4kw+ use of the oven/stove is the thing throwing me as that will drain the battery very fast.

I guess alternatively I can limit the power in the time-of-use in that slot to 1kw so that I'm still making some use of stored solar but not emptying the batteries before 21:00.
 
Can one connect an oldish petrol generator to a 5kw Deye in order to charge the batteries? Any guidance with regards to setup would be appreciated.
There are two ways to do it, from the eskom feed via changeover switch, and from the Aux. I prefer the Aux.

Points to remember (from my notes):

1) Grid And Gen Both can't work at same time

2) Gen Dry contact should connect to 3.6/5kw to GV/5&6 and 8Kw to GS/7&8

3)Gen Signal and Gen Charge should Be Clicked

4)Gen Load ON Batt should be more than Battery % or Voltage

5) If using Time of use - SOC should be more than Gen ON (At this SOC, Gen will stop)

6) If not using Time of use - Default is set to 95% , Gen will be Off when battery reach 95%

Pricing aligns, however, it's a few watts out, I'm leaning towards a larger coverage area is better. Or am I thinking down the wrong line here?

Going with local 455W panels, @R3500 +- seems to be a better option. If I'm going on warranty alone. The price per kWp is the same if shipped and ordered is 30 cents cheaper. Yet, if that breaks, i'll need to arrange removal and shipping.

Go with best price per kWp (remembering installation costs).

This is assuming both combinations fit within the specified V and A limits.

Larger coverage area is actually higher risk for shading, when trees grow.

But the analysis actually needs to be done electrically, and with expansion in mind. 4500W is pitifully little when you have 3 consecutive cloudy days.

System 1:

5kw Deye
5kw Volta

Works like a dream, except I can't use a kettle, dishwasher or iron during loadshedding.

Monthly consumption is around 350 - 450 units per month.

System 2:

12kw Deye
5Kw Volta x3

Split accross the phases, this handles 2 solar geysers, 3 aircons, pool pump, iron, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, airfryer. Obviously not all on at once, but haven't had a trip so far. Electric oven was left off.

Installed the solarman logger yesterday, and it's pretty crap. Are you guys using solar assistant or something else?

Why cant you use kettle, dishwasher or iron during LS?

I use solarman. Good enough for me. The rest use SA.

I've run the max through my batteries, not during load shedding though, just pumping into the house but no trip. A kettle shouldnt do anything .
 
Each one of those chews more than 1770W, which is more than the single 0.5C battery can deliver.

It will give a F56 error on the Deye.
Sure, running all 3 will do that, believe me it's happened way too often for me before the upgrade.. But with monitoring you should be able to run one of those + baseload

It depends on their current requirement, most electric kettles are between 1800-2200W, dishwasher water heating cycle is 2200-2500W, and electric irons on average range from 1400-2000W. So most will trip the inverter alone due to battery limitations.

I wonder if this is intentional? Clearly it's possible to handle the spike from the battery (like during loadshedding).

Maybe it's bad for the battery to suddenly switch from being charged to discharging for a short spike?

What is your battery % set to under work mode?
It might be intentionally going to grid because your battery soc is equal or below the threshhold
