I'm not sure if it damages anything. It shouldn't though, that's why it trips.

Note that the 5kW/8kW limit only applies during loadshedding as the inverter is able to pull in extra from the grid if available. For the 5kW it can go to about 8kW and the 8kW can handle 11.5kW.

Wait, so if I'm ongrid - I can use more than 8kw? My wife will kill me :D I been stricktly controlling use to keep it below 8kw.

We've only had one trip since November - which was about two weeks ago when she thought it was a good idea to turn the oven and airfryer on - while the pool pump, washing machine and dishwasher had just justeed.... and then the geyser turned on.

Yup - passthrough is 50A on the 8kW inverter. That's about 11.5kW.

Also, I've set my geysers to run between 10:00 and 12:30. That way they'll hardly ever be on the same time as any high draw appliances.

:ROFL: Man .... The colour chart said neon green, and it looked nice. It's my study sbtw.
Should see the tiles - almost black. Lovely colour scheme. Let me design a wedding dress ? :laugh:

If it's single phase then parallel yes. If I had the money available when I did my install I would've gone this route instead of a single 8kW. There's more capacity but, more important for me, no fan noise.

I opted for a 8kW but the supplier gave me some discount on the 5kW, so I decided on the two.
Installer tells me there's very little noise - I'll see (Hear).

My understanding is that the newer 5kW units don't have cooling fans, and it's those fans which are responsible for the noise on the 8kW. I've tried a variety of options to cool mine down and minimise the fan noise, but haven't quite landed on a workable solution yet.

No I missed that. Will search right away

EDIT: Found it. Good info to have! My next plan is to use DC fans, so I won't need resistors for that.

En as jy jou gat met 'n giftige haasvel afvee dan kry jy aambuie. Seriously, use another font when being funny, there are many that will read it and actually try it out. Sorry Oom Ron. FYI to the gullible: Glycerin doesn't work. Try a polyurethane varnish. It'll also protect from heavy rain.

Where do you guys have your inverters installed that fan noise is an issue?

Mine is on the far side of our patio. I'm sort of auditory sensitive, so even just the faint hum in the background is enough to irritate me ever so slightly.

Do you know how the fan noise compares to the Axpert inverters?
 
Good day so since this forum has members with panels installed. Any suggestions where to get them at a good price considering panic buying? Also for 5kwa inverter, would is the recommended amount of panels to get on i.e. 455 or 545 and brand?

Panels (at least Jinko, JA, Canadian) are much of a muchness. I bought from solarwaysuppliers as they were best priced. You need to plan your system so that the panels are within the MPPT limts of 150V-450V. For most panels that would be anywhere between 4 and 10 panels per string - although you'd need to check on the panel specifics.
