i would go for sempron, since it also runs on socket 939 boards. that should allow you to upgrade later on to a stronger CPU, like a proper athlon xp 64 3500+ or a X2 even!

anyhow, amd lose a lot less heat than intel cpu's so i would opt for sempron again for the sake of keeping the inside of your case cooler.

I dont think theres much difference really with these cards...
But the AMD is 939 + it is 64bit so AMD

get a socket 939 amd 3000+ 64-bit... those are budget, and overclock extremely well, have friends who have managed to get 2.6GHz out of the 1.8GHz clock speed

I don't think he cares about overclocking and all of that.
AMD for the sole reason in about 3-5 years most things will be 64bit, that way you are at least covered for the future.
Plus on amd's it is possible to run more than one process at a time
