I'm on 4.5.16.9. I downloaded it directly yesterday from Amazon. They give you the apk so it's handy to save somewhere, because you get the regional problem on the Play store and can't install.

Are you downloading from your PC, or directly from your device?

I purchase directly from my PC while logged into my US amazon account with the 'one click buy' button, then I open the app on my S3 and it's listed in the 'my apps' bit. From there you can download directly and install.

So it's not like the PC version of the Play store where it sends it directly to the device. Only the purchase is done there and the downloads are done on device.

As I said before, I haven't tried for ages but the fresh install of the Amazon app store yesterday on my S3 showed up all my other free apps from way back when I had an S2.

I just "buy" (they are free apps afterall) everything through the app
also use the same account on different devices
no region problems...

Nice. I haven't tried through the app but I know it never used to work before. I'll try tomorrows free one and see how it goes.

im thinking that could be your problem...

Nope. Just tried to get White Noise through the app and got an error message about country restrictions as well.

Some how you got lucky :)

I normally get that via the app as well, but have no issues "buying" said apps via the browser, and to be honest I can live with that, esp seeing that I use the desktop for installing apps from Google play as well. Just a hassle the amazon client needs an extra step to do this, not a train smash.

or you are just unlucky.... :)

When I signed up for the free app last year or maybe 2011, it was only for US customers and it checked IP addresses. There was quite a bit of chat on here somewhere (can't seem to find it now) about proxy servers and the likes to get the free app and everyone on the thread had to do the workaround.

I wonder what has changed. I'm sitting in Senegal at the moment, but that still doesn't make sense as you guys back in SA still have to have US accounts but obviously still have SA IP addresses :wtf:

Yeah, it works for me easily now with ultrasurf so no probs. I'm happy enough :)

And to keep the thread on topic, today's free app looks interesting, White Noise, and pretty handy for me in my current circumstances. Man, West Africa is blerrie noisy at night and the calls for morning prayers starts at 5am here.

Just a heads up my battery monitor seems to think that Pitfall drains it a lot.. Even when not running, it reported 11 hours of usage. I uninstalled it to be safe.

I also noticed it. I force close it by using task manager.

Any new apps to report on?

Not really, well unless you use Amazon's free app of the day. For Amazon its some Magic puzzle game for today.

Problem is Google Play API does not allow you to see price changes like iOS and WP stores does so its kind of hard to find em buggers.

Edit: What might be noteworthy is Android Police's normal App roundup's where they list like the new apps every now and then. See http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...-wallpapers-from-the-last-2-weeks-12113-2413/
