It has been said before here somewhere, anyhow:
I installed Mint last night and am testing it out, and so far it is not half bad. Love the menu system, a big WIN and it seems they are planning on keeping the Gnome 2 shell for the time being. Could not find a developer roadmap to see for how long though.

For the people wanting an alternative, give it a spin!
When Ubuntu removes classic support I'm going to move all the office PC's over to Mint.

As far as I know the next version of mint will use gnome shell.

I downloaded mint kde for laughs, but I will stick with unity

another ubuntu based alternative you could look at is Zorin .

I've been using Mint 10 for a while now, and I agree it's a great ubuntu distro. Especially when you right click in a folder you can "open terminal here", absolutely can't live without that!

You can add this feature to Ubuntu by typing in:

sudo aptitude install nautilus-open-terminal

and then re-starting Nautilus. It can also be installed from the Ubuntu Software Centre.

Cool thanks! Should be default IMO :)

Sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

No more codec worry :)

Yes yes...I know....but I do like the idea of everything being installed out of the box and not having to waste all my megs downloading the freakking codecs again and again and again everytime I install it.

PS: Why the frikkadel do Ubuntu and Mint not just put the freaking dustbin on the flippen desktop out of the d@nderse box!!!!!:mad::mad: I know it takes like 2 seconds to do it manually...but why oh why in the age of us being able to deliver data through thin air must users still do this themselves I ask you with tears in my eyes!!!!!??????

Well I'm one of those people who hates the 'dustbin' and never use it anyway, so I'm glad it's not on the desktop by default. In any case, even Windows 7 doesn't put it there anymore.
