Anti rape pledge at schools

Yeah it's like these ridiculous marches against violence or abuse. In India the angry anti-rape mobs even attacked police, which seems to be a crazy thing to do. Misguided anger is never the solution.

Solution IMO starts at home. It's all about nature and nurture. Modern science tells us that the problem is more to do with nurture in most cases and so we should nurture children to see dignity in human beings. This should occur at every level, and not just at home. But I do think that at the end of the day it's an impossible exercise in the current way of seeing the world in mechanistic terms. People are just chemical reactions. Consciousness, some claim is an illusion (Never mind that they never explain that for there to be an illusion a real experience has to exist to be fooled into an illusion). Free will does not really exist, claim others. Humans are only valuable if OTHERS find them valuable, but that's an illusion too. Human relations have been turned into commodities. Eliminative materialism has to lead to moral nihilism. Good luck having it both ways: scientists and philosophers in effect saying that beliefs don't exist and then our moral systems founded on believing in equal rights, human dignity, etc.

What are you suggesting? We all try believing in something which is obviously not true just to get a false base to work from? We did that already, it lead us here. The foundation was sht.

You are basically complaining about reality, and endorsing an alternative that doesn't exist.

Discrimination.

You could have gone along with sexual orientation as in an orientation towards sex with minors. I am sure that's not what they meant when they first came up with the pledge but know that they have all the kids chanting/droning it they have to respect the rights of others irrespective of their sexual orientation.

Discrimination.

That's like saying someone shouldn't be singled out for carrying cholera or ebola because that would be discriminatory !

If there's an escaped lion in your area they let you know so you can protect your family. No difference to a sex offender - who by the way should be in jail, not walking about.

And that's where your argument falls flat. If the judicial system claims that (s)he is not a risk to society then (s)he shouldn't be discriminated against.

If that refers to our judiciary system I'll take it with a pinch of salt.

If they are so 100% sure that the person is not a risk to society, then let one of their children visit the 'offender' alone for a nice cup of tea and a dvd.

Time for chemical castration as a punishment to be introduced. Lock them up, and only parole on condition of lifetime chemical castration...

Would chemical castration actually deter rape or just make the perp more violent? Isn't rape about power?

As a deterrent it will work for many. As for subsequent violence, I don't know, but second offense should result in it being surgically removed and lifetime jail sentence with no possibility of parole...

I didn't have the rape one when I was at school. lol I pledged to play sport at my school and I only did for two years :D
