Apple sets September 12 event, latest iPhone expected

Are you all programmed to say the same thing? :/

I think you're past the stage because ... you can't

The same as none of you wanted 3G because ... you couldn't.
And no one needed anything larger than 20MB because ... you couldn't
That's rich coming from the guy who flat out refused to jailbreak his iPad to circumvent any limitations he perceived the device to have.

Not everyone has the time, nor the inclination, to tinker - do not confuse that to not having the necessary skill set.
Not important to me and not my motive for writing separate posts. The speed at which discussions flow on this forum often make editing a waste of time as people do not look back to see who might have edited their opinions earlier. I just write. I try to be active here between doing a day-job and speed is my no 1 priority ... not forum structure.
As I said - it's proper forum etiquette.

Exactly. Most people have better things to do than mess with their appliances in order to get them to work how they should have out of the box.

Yes. Got a guy in the office refreshing the entire interweb every 2 minutes waiting for it. No-one seems to have a clear idea what time it will be.

I can quite honestly say I have been disappointed by every Nokia phone I've ever owned since the N95. I must have had half a dozen after the N95 and none delivered on the promise/expectations.

Difficult to trust the brand again.

Been trying to convince my sister to dump her Blackberry for a touchscreen device (Sammy or Apple) but she's reluctant.

Why? Cause her only experience of a touchscreen "smartphone" was a Nokia 5530!!!

The phone is long gone but the pain lingers on!!

Warranted, Nokia have come a long way with the Lumia range.

Thank God somebody here can stand up against the BS that some people post.

Thanx for this.

The guy googles "how to flash custom rom - SGS3" and suddenly he's an elite technofile who scoffs at people who don't know what cyanogen mod is.

To be very honest I'm past that stage where I want to tinker with things to get them to work, I have zero interest in flashing new roms etc!

......trying to justify self....blah blah blah

The arguement will never end, but for the average user I would rather recommend an iOS device than android, or even a techno user who doesn't want to have to fiddle to get things to work as they shoulda out of the box...

I own and use an iphone 4s and have had several high end androids including sgs3 and htc one x.They dont need tinkering they work just fine out the box just like the iphone.

I dont like the galaxy tab 10.1 though, the os is more free but somehow i don't like the screen and general feel of it ,prefer the ipad...but yeah REAL tablets/hybrids are on their way soon from windows 8.

Yeah I was an anti nokia fanboy, have always been a sony fan but the n95 was simply undisputedly the best phone in its time and then after that nothing from nokia.I had a 5800 and it was terrible.

Recently I had a lumia 800 and it was ALOT better than I expected. The windows phone 7.5 interface really is a thing of beauty and nokia's amoled screen is amazing, the phone was well built too,I'm keen to jump ship to wp8 and the new lumia's soon, waiting to see what they announce today.IMO this is a bigger announcement than the iphone 5 for one simple reason. There is going to be more innovation....I really cant see Apple coming out with anything groundbreaking (a 4 inch screen isn't groundbreaking or innovative)

What a load of garbage.

Anyway, I'll be watching today's Nokia announcements and the Apple event closely. WP8 is probably the one platform that could get me to jump ship from Apple.

What? Why no 'journalist' finding a 'prototype' in a 'bar' this time?

Apple's a joke. Ok-ish products if you into last year's best, douchy company. No thanks.

The main motivation to root, for me, was the bloatware.

I like to customize my devices and from what I've heard wp8 is even less flexible than a stock standard iPhone in that regard. That could put one off a bit.

By the same token, close the jailbreak loophole and I would find it incredibly difficult to stick with the iPhone.

EDIT: Oh and of course Apple will punt the 4" screen as innovative. Since 2007 the iPhone has sold with nothing more than stock 3.5" so in the context of the brand and model range it is innovative.

Hasn't bothered me at all.

Granted the earlier versions of ios and android were also not very customizable, windows phone 7 was still young lets see what wp8 brings to the table.

I hope they atleast get opera mini as an app or i'm going to be sorely disappointed.

In the smartphone context its not innovative.

Apple winning the court case, $ 1 Bn and the possible baring of the sale of many Samsung handsets, has really got some of us throwing our toys out of our cots and having tantrums. :D

Credit where credit is due...

Apple should go into the Guinees book of records.....for biggest successful mass hypnotism in the world. :D

Couldn't really make up your mind in there could you?

Luckily for us, the world does not only consist of America where Apple won. The rest of the world found either Apple or both of them guilty of patent infringements.

What do you mean by "you couldn't"

Are you talking technical capability?
Very cocky if you are

I wiould venture that almost everyone on this forum could tinker/root devices etc.
It aint difficult. Just follow instructions that are on the web.

People choose *not* to tinker for many other reasons
* The perceived value gained < value of the effort
* The difficulty in getting apps from app store post tinkering
* The hassle of going through the root process after OS upgrades
* Got better things to do.

* And for me most important. I run a small company and we follow a 'Tinker as little as possible' across all our platforms.
It makes Staff take on simpler.
It makes integration easier
It makes support easier

We adopt a Cloud App policy using defined integration APIs etc.

I am not claiming to be 100% correct.

I am claiming that for me the no-tinker policy is based on good business fundementals that work for us
