Article: Petrol attendants to strike

I think this would be the perfect scenario where consumers can actually give these "gimme gimme gimme" workers a BIG FCK YOU! and do it ourselves!

You'd be paying for the services of an attendant even if you pumped your own.

Please, most people in this country can't even figure out traffic circles. Let them pump their own petrol and you're asking for even more problems.

Not that much. Their margins are regulated by law.

I dont care. I have had it with all these strikes. Enough. At least with these we can say ... screw you ..... we will hsow that we can do it ourselves and perhaps get the lawe reviewed and you can go find other frekking employement.

Doubt they're making millions. It's a high gross, low nett business due to the various taxes and overheads.

The busy ones on national highways with the wimpys etc coin it but the average little station struggles to get by. The fuel mark up is regulated and not very high.

Everyone I know tips if they are going for "full house". Obviously not if people come for R100 top ups etc.

you sure? If so, that is quite a lot. For every tank of petrol they make about R50. 200 cars for the day average (my office overlooks a petrol station and just during my time at work there are more cars coming to put in petrol) = R10 000. 30 days in a month. R300 000. Pay 10 petrol attendants R3000 each = R30 000. PROFIT :D

If only it were that simple. What about rent, electricity and other operational expenses?

Well, I have never tipped. Nor has anybody I know. Its just not part of what I do. My parents never did it. neither did their parents. None of my friends or other family do. So your assumption may be true, but it could also be hogwash?

The margin is regulated. Out of that I imagine comes salaries, rent, insurance, franchise costs, electricity, maintenance…
 
Rental costs. Equipment maintenance. Loads of other overheads...

Was just a rough (very rough) estimate. But if the owner can walk away with R100k per month which i think is entirely possible, then R3k (or whatever pittance the petrol attendants are paid) is pretty sad? Or should they just be happy to have a job and be paid even less for daring to ask for a raise?

The one filling station near me goes through about 200000l of petrol a week.... and its not a large station.

The truck stop near me, goes through easily 250000l of diesel every 2 days...


But the big margins at a petrol station are no longer the petrol. its the shop...
