Ask Afrihost CEO Gian Visser anything

Why is Afrihost not aggressively pushing adoption of IPv6 in South Africa? Despite your use of Telkom's IPC, it is technically feasible to provide tunnelled IPv6 service to your customers, in the same way you provided tunnelled static IPv4 addresses for years.

If i wanted to work for Afrihost, what one thing would you describe to me about your company that would motivate me to consider finding employment at your organisation

If you had to rewind time before Afrihost and start another Web Based Tech Startup. Would you push for Organic growth or Inorganic? If Inorganic then would this be in the beginning of the startup venture?

Would you yourself ever invest in small web based startups that have the ability to compete and even outperform the international industry websites purely due to the business model being completely different/fresher than the other international websites?

I ask these questions due to our being in the beginning of 2 exciting tech start ups which has so far been organically grown.

Do you work with MTN to improve coverage or have you considered other networks for mobile because at the moment MTN coverage is terrible?

economic upheaval

Is our country on the brink of collapse or recession looking at the present economic and political upheaval?

How difficult was it to build a successful Internet business against the intense competition that continues today?

Thank you for your time Gian. My question includes an idea. Afrihost has been offering a lot of bonus capped data as well free data from 23:30 to 07:30 and not to mention roll over data for a month. As a result, majority of capped users are 'over stocked' on data. Kinda like how OPEC is over stocked on the oil supply :)

Heres a few solutions to this:

1. Offer a feature of converting capped data to mobile data - this is a bit far fetch, I personal think it won't happen, but its worth the try

2. Offer a wifi service through G Connect or Always On, whereby you can use your adsl details to login and use your data on the 1000s of wifi hotspots around the country. Technically its not free, you still using your data, but no one is complaining they dont have surplus of data. With this concept, you CAN include the 1gig free account for the uncapped users, maybe even increase it to 2 gigs. - I feel that this is an awesome value added service and I hope that you will take it further.

So do you think something like this will feature?

Regards

Muhammed

Do you ever phone your helpdesk anonymously do check up on how responsive the service desk is, and their competency levels?

Looking at numbers of people who have ADSL at home, should companies focus on FTTH or getting people normal ADSL?

With Afrihost for 10 years - thank you for great products, service and technical support. My question: What is Afrihost's alternative for area in SA where copper cables are stolen, therefore no possibility for ADSL fixed line. Area is near Hartbeestpoort dam, 10 km from Brits. Here is link: http://www.inyoniestate.com/wcontact.php

Hi again Gian

Just a short one.

Can Afrihost and will Afrihost ever offer a phone only contract to match their great mobile deals? I think it would be great to offer the latest Apple and Android devices at competitive pricing. Like how FNB offers it.

Question

Have you lost some of your agility due to your size. Are thier any companies in your sector that you look at now and worry they could out manovour you ?

I live in a rural area and use your mobile data as my primary connection for business and home as telkom pulled out of our area a number of years ago. I have been very impressed with the mobile data product and really see mobile data as an invaluable way to achieving a good broadband experience in rural areas where fiber or copper are not feasible. How do you see the provision of broadband being implemented in rural areas in the medium to long term and how do we overcome the hurdle of high data costs?

How in real terms would you explain the benefits economically for the man in the street of internet penetration

Is Afrihost today, where you had envisioned it would be 16 years ago,and have you been able to stay true to the reason you guys had started the company?

Now that Afrihost is under the MTN umbrella, how do you see Afrihost being integrated into MTN and visa versa regarding customer service, provision of FTTH and mobile data in the next 5 years?

We looking for providers to provide overall wireless access at instituitions whereby a large target market is available but due to budget cuts infrastructure is falling behind and students are becoming frustrated.
would you investigate the viability of such an adventure?

Hi Gian, one question has been on my mind (and have been asking @Afrihost on Twitter) on numerous occasions...

When will you introduce uncapped mobile products?

Gian

I am a VERY happy Afrihost customer and believe you are a market leader in providing competitive products coupled with excellent support.
Over the last year I have migrated some of my family members over to Afrihost and we have a combination of ADSL, Mobile data and mobile voice services from Afrihost. I am already using Afrihost Plus to leverage additional value from your product portfolio.

My question is whether Afrihost is investigating new offerings that would provide families like ours a better rate and/or product offering? One example that springs to mind is the providing discounts on data volumes if you have multiple mobile accounts, or even allowing a family to share a larger bundle which will boil down to a reduced rate.

Thank you
